Define "unacceptable"? You mean like Sterling, PBR, Old Mil, Bud-Light, Schlitz, Miller Lite.... If so they abused you!
I get it. Recall the 400 is based on the old Fender tonestack. So to get close to flat 2-10-2 are the approximate settings. It takes trial and error to figure it out. Here’s a link to the manual.

I am totally outclassed by the stuff I can build in my garage.
That bass would be wasted on me, much as I lust for it.

Most common here as well. Not just at GC, but many young dudes. I keep thinking that the next time it happens I'm gonna ask the guy to go get me a coffee. When he looked at me at all so you just said I was the boss.
Gotta tell you, I’m really jealous. Once retired, I can take advantage of my perk as the father of a Jet Blue employee and travel some. It would be great to have a mini east coast GTG when you can pop over to NY.
Seriously, get it while you can. Even if you don’t feel “worthy” (which I doubt), then just say to yourself, after you get it, “I need to improve so I am worthy of such a fine instrument”
Since they are rare, you really need to get it while you can. I have missed deals on rare ones (the short scale, the white, and cherry finishes) and regretted it, then waited until another came up, and then paid more than if I had jumped on the first one.
Plus, I think the buyer is accepting offers (?), and if so, maybe you can work a favorable deal!
I thought is was a labyrinth/maze game and was stuck for hours....

The one here was ok until about 2016 or thereabouts. Then things really changed. The knowledgeable managers and others, all of whom played in local bands, left. A couple of them eventually bought a really bad local, turned it into Bakersfield Sound Company (and survived the pandemic) and seem to be doing ok. Unfortunately, their manufacturer offerings are a bit limited. But it’s a pleasant store to drop into. These days, we only have GC and them. Sadly, Front Porch Music is no more.

Exactly. I wouldn’t have my ‘13 NR reissue, my short scale, or my ‘15 had I dithered. I would be having to pay double or more for them now.
My standard reply is “Bruce is the boss.” Occasionally, they’ll get what I’m saying.
I’m outclassed by all my gear and pretty much everyone on here. But who cares. Just buy the friggin bass.

I try to be neat, leave the length of pickup wire untouched, only leave minimal slack, use good pre-tinned fine strand flexible wire, use little solder.
I used to use Gavitt pushback wire, and still have about 5ft of it, but I much prefer this silicone jacketed wire.

Thanks. It's not the EQ, it's pushing it to a point of overdriving the tubes to get grit. Same problem a lot of SVT people have I think. Pretty pointless to me unless I can really crank it. I get plenty out of the B-15.
Prices are crazy. I paid $1000 for my NR used.
