Thunderbird Club

FedEx had no issues this time, got it hours earlier than projected!

Now the bad.
LOTS of sharp fret ends :-(
Fretboard has badly sanded sections between frets rounding fretboard edge.
The frets are dressed horribly.

Finish is VERY orange peeled.
The flakes are very sparse.

The nut is cut unevenly and messily.
The slot for the G string is too deep and wide.

It going back :(

Don't blame you. I would take a hefty discount.

don't dislike it but it's a band-aid in the end and it still doesn't achieve that pendular hanging pressure against the torso....I really like the vibration of the bass body...
Moved mine on the VP. Put a black pickguard screw in the neck heel hole.
Could not get along with the face tilt, especially when performing:
I was fighting it when walking across the stage.
It also FELT awkward: changed the way that it hangs from the strap, pointing the neck away from my body . On the upper bout,
It brings the plane of neck back towards me across my (ample) midsection.

Even though it did exasperate the neck dive:
Light tuners, that required no drilling and 20.00 of Tungsten weights in the cavity countered that effectively.

Spector Ultra Violet. A great choice.
The only thing I have that’s close to it is my Purple Sparkle, which is actually more of a Lavender Sparkle.

My BlingBird was finished in Standard Tiger Eye Burst but the Red Tiger Eye Burst sure looks awesome. The only thing I have near that color is my Burgundy Metallic NR. A good safe option.

Dang, I forgot all about that PRS Whale Blue and their Caribbean Blue and their Faded Denim Blue, love all those colors. I only have one blue bird right now, my BaCH NR in baby or sonic Blue.

That G&L Cobalt Blue looks beautiful on a figured maple top. Had one years ago (2500 Tribute). Loved the color and the depth in that finish.

Is there such a thing as Trans Phelam Blue? That would be an interesting look with a nod to an original Gibby color. The body was sourced from an EBay seller (Gluff guitars and basses). He does beautiful work and the semi hollow body in his designs really brings the weight of the bird down. It’s the same eBay seller that I bought the BlingBird Tbird body blank from a couple years ago. Not cheap, but the quality and woods are fantastic.

LOL - Miles, I put that one in there specifically for you. It’s called Dragon Burst. A way out there love it or hate it color. Personally I love it, reminds me of a tie dyed Grateful Dead shirt. Which brings up an interesting thought - why not a Grateful Dead Tribute bass! Very cool idea and it opens up lots of unique design options. I’m a big Gerry Garcia fan. The only down side is the love it or hate it aspect.

That’s two votes for Ultra Violet.
PRS did 3 (more?) Dragon finish guitars. The first 3 anyway were Dragon & Dragon II Dragon III that were very nice. Had a burst on a flame? Quilt? top but no blue edge to them that I can think of.
But they had a Dragon inlay up the fretboard.

If I’ve quit the clampdown by the time you move, I’ll volunteer to help drive one, at least if it’s to Peyson. A visit with Andy would be great. We’ll have to see if it’s to Texas. While I’d love to see Miles and Sharon…..

I might just take you up on that. It’ll either be Prescott/Peyson or Dallas/Ft Worth or Austin/San Antonio- I think we have club members near each of those places. Just looking for the right house before I put mine up for sale.
Would love to see you both if the move is bringing you here!

Afraid of what else “got by” QC on this one.
Discount not an option.

Sloppy edge sanding of the frets and fretboard. Damaging both and left with 220 grit marks visible.

A nut that looks like they used a powered spindle tool to create the slots.
Uneven string heights at the nut, and G and E cut low so even correction not possible.

Neck in SEVERE backbow and strings pitched. TR was at neutral.

See all the space between the flakes at the tip of the headstock? It’s worse on the body.
Dull spots, that the clear coat isn’t thick enough or burned through during polishing.
With the amount of orange peeled I suspect way too little clear coat.

But that nut and fret ends? My 129.00 Squier Debut was better!!!
I’m bummed and pissed.

This is a GOOD flake job, Marty Bell on a L2500 I owned formerly.
