Thunderbird Club

they're on a friend's MiM J and sound pretty good, just commenting because never imagined different nylon types/brands could feel so different to the touch.....not slinky like the LBs as definitely tenser, not rubbery and gummy like the LBs tone wise either but more like flats, they almost feel like flat Black Beauties if that makes any sense.....pricey according to Marshall......anecdotally, Plaid and I were remembering the times when we would ask for just a "set of bass strings" at the store or even better, "can I have an A (or D or whatever) string?" :) .....it wasn't uncommon to try out a used bass at a store that had different brands/types on, like a flat wound E, nylon A, round wound D (or whatever) and so on....
The coated strings like those, the LB’s and the DA’s are all a bit pricey.

I used both of my '60s Epis with the new Ashdown at last night's rehearsal, it sounded fantastic with the SWR 6x10, seems pretty well dialed in with those basses, I'm quite pleased!

Blue Monday.

I think it’s a nice sounding bass. I’ve almost picked one up a few times over the years but haven’t. No real reason why. I came close when I was spending a lot of time in Sac and a tiny music store there was a dealer. Played one and liked it. Went back a few weeks later intending to get one and they were sold. Just got too busy and never followed up. Super light and fun to play.

They are. It was the bass I played the one time I played at CBGB.

Contrast is, Schügar Stixx has a fairly large catalogue, seldom have set lists, the arrangements are fluid we seldom rehearse.
We take fly by the seat of our pants requests
And dive into the deep end when adding new songs, we learn them separately and then throw them into the show.

Obviously not for everyone: but it’s exciting being on that edge: we mostly succeed but occasionally we have train wrecks :)
With good musicians, the Grateful Dead approach works for any genre.

Played a great show at one of our usual spots yesterday. Lots of fun. I really wasn't happy with the amp, though. This is the place that had the SWR Bass 350 head into a huge cab (810?). Now it's a Fender Rumble 100 combo. I ran into its effect loop as usual, but the sound was just terrible. Kinda flabby. I guess it's the speaker I didn't like.

Saturday I got photobombed by a shark while trying to get a photo of something from surface. What a ham.

You might try setting the tone knobs to 10-2-2-10, start with the voicing buttons all up, and plug into the instrument jack. Gain as desired. Also, a single 12 is (IMO) suboptimal for serious bass.

Another bottling day in the books. Now a two week nap.

I need a two week nap! But without using OTO, and still getting paid. Good luck with that, Miles. Hope you get yours, Dave! (If you drink all that, it'll take care of the first three days, but man will you have to pee when you wake up!)

Like you and @Ringhammer I am in two original projects. I am fortunate that the people I am playing with are pretty much on the same page in both.

The challenge for me is that both take time and the gig’s are fewer and harder to come by.

Problem as I see it is regardless of my feelings, at 58, I am aging out. Don’t know if there is a solution…..
Play anyway?

Another reason I stick in the situation I’m not necessarily very happy in, I’m about to be 59, and I want to be sure to get as many opportunities to play out as I can. The guys in the band I am in that I love (Red Sun Ruins), all have the same idea and would like to play out at least every month to 6 weeks, and if the other band would at least be into playing every couple months or so, then that could be a couple gigs a month for me, and that would be ideal.

@BklynKen also, if using your preamp pedal with the Rumble, run the pedal board into the FX return (no send) and your bass into the pedal. That will bypass every knob on the Rumble. Use the preamp pedal for the master volume. I was just told that by the big Dog in the Rumble club.

That's what he did at the gig, if I read correctly.
