Thunderbird Club

jealous.....happy you picked that project...came out awesome, always liked those, top notch instrument and from every respective, probably the best Gibson bass ever (imho)...don't think I've ever seen a sunburst one in person but played a few black ones and (my fave) natural ones and absolutely love them...Greg Lake live with ELP...shivers...
Right after I bought the Ripper, I bought a set of Japanese copy pickups for it. The bridge pickup has been intermittent so I was contemplating making another pickguard and putting in a set of Bart Tbird pickups I have. I just found a new Seymour Duncan reproduction on eBay:)

Here’s my latest pickup, a 2012 Gibson Thunderbird IV in vintage cherry red.

I basically sold an old white Orville by Gibson Thunderbird. I liked the white one, but really fell in love with the look of this cherry one. Who woulda figured.

And this is a close sibling to my 1992 Gibson Les Paul LPB-1, also in vintage cherry red.

Very nice! Let me know if you'd like a club number!

Does anyone here know of a software program for isolating drums? Me and my Classic Country guitarist and long-time friend want to get together once in a while to jam (band disbanded due to death of lead singer, we can both sing but have to be judicious in song choices). He has set up a spaceand a PA in his house, but IMO few if any drummers would be interested in sporadic playing without a potential band to show for it.

Played a great show at one of our usual spots yesterday. Lots of fun. I really wasn't happy with the amp, though. This is the place that had the SWR Bass 350 head into a huge cab (810?). Now it's a Fender Rumble 100 combo. I ran into its effect loop as usual, but the sound was just terrible. Kinda flabby. I guess it's the speaker I didn't like.

Saturday I got photobombed by a shark while trying to get a photo of something from surface. What a ham.

I had a Rumble combo with lesser watts for a while. Never could be happy with it. I loved how light it was. Miles and Mike get along with their Rumbles, but I couldn't make it work for any length of time. Just when I thought I had it sounding good, it didn't.

I really like his old stuff like that, I saw him twice, once right after Past, Present and Future and a couple years after that, he is a brilliant songwriter and his touring bands were simply excellent. The second time I saw him I recall him doing a great rendition of "Broadway Hotel".
There is some excellent later work. But a bit sporadic as he tried to fit in after the seventies. His best albums were Bedsitter Images; Orange; Zero She Flies; Past, Present, and Future; and Year of the Cat.

Getting high and just cranking Nostradamus at 11 was a fun college pastime.

I saw the Past Present Tour. I think at Cal Poly SLO. Or maybe the Santa Monica Civic? I only saw him with the full band three or four times. But solo more than that. Including at the amphitheater down the street from my house about ten years ago. A very nice man. He sticks around to talk to fans about his songs, history, or just to chat.

He is one of my favorites. I’ve worked up a fun (for me) bass piece mixing As Goes By for the intro with Year of the Cat.

they're on a friend's MiM J and sound pretty good, just commenting because never imagined different nylon types/brands could feel so different to the touch.....not slinky like the LBs as definitely tenser, not rubbery and gummy like the LBs tone wise either but more like flats, they almost feel like flat Black Beauties if that makes any sense.....pricey according to Marshall......anecdotally, Plaid and I were remembering the times when we would ask for just a "set of bass strings" at the store or even better, "can I have an A (or D or whatever) string?" :) .....don't know about anywhere else but it wasn't uncommon to try out a used bass at a store that had different brands/types on, like a flat wound E, nylon A, round wound D (or whatever) and so on in 70's SoFL.....
The higher tension sounds right from what I recall reading (like their flats). Also was thinking they felt weird. I don't find the LBs rubbery of gummy. I don't know how I would describe them really. I love the slick feel. Might have to look into them if the LBs ever die. But I dig how they sound on the '06 so I will likely get another set when/if they die.

From the experts at ChatGPT. I never thought of the LBs are "upright" sounding either.

I think my favorites are "On the Border" and "Roads to Moscow". Al was one of those incredible cats who sometimes flew in under my radar back when I thought I only listened to harder music, psychedelic music, acid rock, etc.

Are you where I think you are?

Oh my God! Where is that? I could devour that whole tray!

Then not be able to walk for a week because of gout. It would be worth it.

Where are you?!
Yes! At Michoacano, the place where we all had dinner in Hol that night.....conversely, Rosa and Thomas are in Italy (Roller Derby World Cup in Innsbruck) enjoying this....

I have a 25 that goes with me to the Newport timeshare and other hotels. It mostly sits in the corner of the family room out of the way and unappreciated. It is what it is. It was less than an $100 when I bought it new about eight years ago. It has developed a “staticky” noise. I’ll hang onto it for now. But if it gets worse, next electrictronics recycling event, it’s gone.

I’ve played through a 500 a few times. It was decent, considering how cheap it is. It, and at least the 800 (and perhaps the 200?) were designed following the acquisition of Genz-Benz. I know the 210 and 410 cabs have a bit of that DNA, based upon what I’ve read. They are good affordable options. I can’t imagine trying to gig a single 100. YMMV.

Try Moises.
