Thunderbird Club

I have a 25 that goes with me to the Newport timeshare and other hotels. It mostly sits in the corner of the family room out of the way and unappreciated. It is what it is. It was less than an $100 when I bought it new about eight years ago. It has developed a “staticky” noise. I’ll hang onto it for now. But if it gets worse, next electrictronics recycling event, it’s gone.

I’ve played through a 500 a few times. It was decent, considering how cheap it is. It, and at least the 800 (and perhaps the 200?) were designed following the acquisition of Genz-Benz. I know the 210 and 410 cabs have a bit of that DNA, based upon what I’ve read. They are good affordable options. I can’t imagine trying to gig a single 100. YMMV.
A single R100 can work in up to a medium sized room if the band's not nutso loud. Outdoors in some situations, even. I prefer 2x100, if only for the two 12s. And there's always the DI, in which case you're only using the Rumble as tone shaping and/or bass monitor.

I think my favorites are "On the Border" and "Roads to Moscow". Al was one of those incredible cats who sometimes flew in under my radar back when I thought I only listened to harder music, psychedelic music, acid rock, etc.
Yep. All that. Frankly, his record company killed him after Year of The Cat. They insisted on a middle of the road, easy listening “yacht rock” album. Hence the disastrous, overproduced “Modern Times.” It sold and made a ton of dough. Long time hard core fans like me saw it as the beginning of the end.

Al is still out there. He still tours, although less frequently. I catch him when he’s around. But I haven’t heard him play “Song on the Radio” in at least thirty years. Thank God.

Edit: Brain Fart. I meant Time Passages. Not Modern Times, which is a very good album.

Mine had an overdrive knob, but it got scratchy right after the warranty ran out and then just died. Wasn't going to fix it. Sold it to a guitar player who played a little bass and wanted an amp. A have a Ampeg 110 combo which I kept. It's upstairs in my office on top of my Fender 115 cab, but is not connected.

I have Rumble 200 w/1x15 that lives in a practice space. It works really well (I bought it used) and have used it for a number of gigs and it worked great.
I also picked up a 500 head used that I really like. My tastes are not that refined.....

The low end ones are disposable. Frankly, it seems to me if you’re going FOH and are basically using an amp as a monitor, the 500 makes sense. Or even for small gigs. It’s 350 into the combo cab. You need a 210 extension to get to 500.
