It really does. Playing with a pick and regaining effortless sight reading are top on the music list as my retirement activities.

I have always been functionally illiterate when it comes to reading music. Playing by ear is so much easier that I never became proficient at reading. I'm hoping to learn to read well when I retire. There are a lot of things I hope to do. Something tells me there will be more projects than time.

Once upon a time that wouldn't have phased me. I'd have to practice a bit to sight read again. Are you playing the bottom line or is that your acoustic pedalboard?

I’m playing the bottom line on electric (no effects), my daughter has the upper line on bowed double bass.
I can only sight read the easy parts. I have the arpeggios memorized. They require a bit of strategy for hand positions.

Yes exactly! There are also 3 worship songs I'll be playing guitar for. Mar on bass, my niece on piano and her daughter singing.

For me, they’re kind of a last resort if a regular transcription isn’t available. But I can usually do better by using Chordify, figuring out the key and playing along using the chords to help as a guide.

What I prefer about notation is that it shows the correct rhythm.

isn't that just what the Bicentennial sidewinder humbuckers are?

Bicentennial has coils with steel in them with a Alnico magnet in the middle.

Ripper is like a cheaper version of the EB with a piece of steel threw the middle of bobbins and screws for signal / magnets ate the sides of each bobbin/ no magnet in middle.

The problem with sidewinder in my opinion is the poor charging of the coils. For a Bicentennial style my polarity meter can not detect North or South on the sides.

Has anyone here played a bass with a Stonewall or Novak mudbucker? The Stonewall is 2/3 the price of the Novak, but I can't find any real reviews.
I'm looking for a real mudbucker tone, not something "improved". I want a pickup that can do Jack Bruce melting your face in Cream (even though my fingers can't do Jack Bruce melting your face in any band).

I like chord charts. You still have to fill in and figure out timing. Never used to use them until I started playing again and had to basically learn 5 new songs every week for church. Gave up trying to learn and memorize them each week. Now I'm not as good at learning by ear as I was.
