Thunderbird Club

...and there's my weekend goals achieved!

View attachment 7268136

Overlay bonded and trimmed, holes drilled, rod access fitted, and nut cut to size and fitted, ready to slot after the body has bridge installed.

The neck still needs finish sanding/shaping to radius edges and such, and finishing, but the tricky stuff I'd not attempted before is done.

Rod cover will get done and decorated when I do the pick guard.

Very happy with results so far. Feels like an accomplishment.
Looks beautiful, right down to the truss rod access hole bevel. Great attention to detail! I have no doubt this is gonna be a great build.

I keep mine on the bench. Minimal setup time. But whatever works for you!
Ditto. About the only shop equipment save I made when I moved from my old home with a fully equipped wood shop to my new house with just two short benches in the garage. Figured I could do just about anything else with good power tools. But precision drilling with a hand held power drill isn’t my speciality.

I'd like to, but too many projects, not enough workbench.

Probably messed up, but got a pretty good discount on the Bullion Gold that CME had listed for a century. Hopefully the neck isn't as bad as the zoomed in picture looks. And if it is, at least I have a return window! I feel like a real member now 😎
Congrats!
I've been staring at photos of that one a lot, trying to reverse-engineer the finish process. I like the subtle grain-under-gloss texture of it.

Building a workbench is one of those projects I haven't done yet. Gosh.

All this talk of workbenches, I figure I’d share:

The whole thing is resting on a 2x4 along the back and mounted to one long piano hinge that runs the entire length, and by removing two of three bolts at each leg attachment, the legs swing up and the whole bench can be put up against the wall and out of the way. I have never once done this, but someday a future owner might find it handy. This bench is over built, level, despite the floor not being level, and solid, with no rattle or vibrations.

The drill press “table” gets a bit crowded, and the mini belt sander “table” sometimes gets a bit covered over, but they are always mostly ready for use.

The plank across the door is for the king of the house so he can look out the window. Not much to see on the side, but he still looks.
