Definition of tedious... trying to trim hard phenolic to perfectly match maple, without gouging either.

Getting there. I had to gapfill this side a touch, but as I'm planning an opaque finish up to the black, it should hide well.

if that 58 explorer is the one he used in that clip it's gotta be worth millions....

He may have had other Explorers, but he (and everyone in the band it seems), had a couple they liked and stuck with them for years. Not like the cats who change guitars every song or two and have warehouses full of them. That said, I suspect that was the one that got most all of his playing--and could very well been the only one he used. 99% of the pics of him were the Explorer or the Firebird. But yeah, can't imagine what the guitar that did the Freebird lead would go for.

1939 Victor overhead projector.....tuned the 2x6L6 (class A, 12 W featuring an interstage transformer instead of phase splitter) for harmonica.....owner wants it voiced for guitar..,.my fave kinda project...

Figured it was something like that.
I always loved that sort of project.

I use it when the need is worth the setup time. It's stored on a dolly under my workbench.

...and there's my weekend goals achieved!

Overlay bonded and trimmed, holes drilled, rod access fitted, and nut cut to size and fitted, ready to slot after the body has bridge installed.

The neck still needs finish sanding/shaping to radius edges and such, and finishing, but the tricky stuff I'd not attempted before is done.

Rod cover will get done and decorated when I do the pick guard.

Very happy with results so far. Feels like an accomplishment.
