your build?

This is a beautiful take on a TBird.
What’s the story here?

What’s the deal with…..
“As an eBay associate”……..

Do you people see that?
I am not an fleabay associate.

It started life as a Gibson Nikki Sixx Mk. II, after that......................

Oh no - sorry Chucky, just one I saw on eBay. But it is kinda up my alley - I appreciate their modifications/design choices. It's a unique rockin' T-bird - In this way it's related, thanks for asking. :)

I've taken a bit of a break from building, but I just (earlier tonight) bought a nice very light 1-piece slab of Paulownia for a bass body. Nothing in mind right now, but I couldn't resist. The whole slab is just over 5lbs, which some bass bodies weigh! A lightweight bass that kicks ass? Yes please - all day long.

Having previously broached The HItchikers's Guide to the Galaxy universe, thought I'd upload this tidbit-

But these days I prefer a well-mixed Old Fashioned ...

My favorite HGG line on inter-dimensional travel : "What's it like?" - "...it's like drinking a glass of water" ... "Drinking a glass of water !?!.., how could that be so bad?" - "You are the water"... (shaken' not stirred...)

This seems a little more that casual knowledge. Any stories we should know. Doesn't matter if they are true. We're gullible and will laugh at pretty much anything.

Went to the dermatologist two wks ago and I had a couple cancers. One was removed by cutting a chunk out of the edge of my ear. I have a bloody section and thought someone would ask. Told my wife if anyone did I was gong to tell them, "Well, it was during a moment of passion....." I got the "Don't" look. Or, that we got into a fight and she pulled a Mike Tyson on me. No has asked yet and I'm running out of scab and the door of opportunity is closing. She (Dr) will likely cut or buopsy something else tomorrow but the forehead doesn't really allow for a good story.
What happened to your ear, Dagrocious?

Ok, the “As an eBay associate" shows up anytime I post an eBay post lately. No affiliation - no idea why but it is a recent thing. Things are always.., evolving, whether we like it or not...

Otherwise I don't know the story of that bass. Just an interesting eBay offer related to this thread. I like to share fellow unique creative bass-related makers products and in this case - specifically T-bird related. My '64 II*, Factorbird fretless, Saundersbird and Gojira are my... T-bird credentials. :bassist:

Couple of technical questions for you- since re-watching the Dave Mason video with his Bigsby-equipped Firebird V, I'm starting to GAS for a Firebird V or VII with a vibrato- btw a very long time ago I had a Bicentennial edition (no vibrato) which I traded for a 1959 Gretsch Tenneseean which had a Bigsby.

But they are pricier than I'm willing to spend at this time-

However, there are Epiphone versions that cost less-

Having noted that there are those here who have Epiphone versions of T-BIrds, I would like to ask what your overall experience has been with the Epiphone brand-
4 of my 6 birds are Epis. 2012 bolt-on, 2019 VP, 2019 CP, 2023 purple sparkle 64. The BO has the least interesting pickups and cheap tuners but for the price is a good deal.
The VP is sweet but the bridge is a bit off where it needs to be. The pickups are good but are biased toward highs rather than lows. If you like the Angry Piano tone, this is your bird.
The CP is equivalent to most modern (standard) Gibson birds. No complaints.
My 64 is nearly perfect. Think VP with more lows. The decision to angle the neck is weird but doesn’t really affect playability. Mine’s a keeper but some people have gone through 2 or 3 to get one that’s unblemished and is fully functional.
I had a 2009 PRO 5 that had a stupidly huge neck and a damaged, mis-installed bridge — apparently from the factory.

I only know a few players with Epi Firebirds but have heard zero complaints there.

The second is what is a double-barred single coil pickup? Smiitty of MJS Pickups has explained it to me more than once over the phone but I keep forgetting, except the part about Rickenbacker having used that style in their bass pickups.

I have several Epi Thunderbirds. Most of them are the Limited Edition Custom Shops (five of them). All have great build quality. Some don’t care for the poly finishes. I don’t mind them.

Veronica’s hubby Frank has an Epi Bonamassa Firebird. It is really nice.

One of my favorite guitarists, Brian Aubert, plays both Epiphones and Gibsons. EPIs are good enough for him!

Gibson did a run of inexpensive Firebirds about ten years ago. They were a flop. I came damn close to buying a Pelham Blue one. Frankly, the Epi Firebird I played to compare it with played better.

Epiphones are good value instruments. But there have been some noted QC issues the last few years, particularly ones from China. Easily rectified if new by returning until you get a good one.

You want the real story or a made up one that's more interesting?

Dr thinks they were "just" squamous. Not as concerning as melanoma. Hopefully she was right. Didn't look like M. to me, but who am I?
You definitely don't want melanoma. I had a dime size lesion on my back and ended up with a 5" scar.

I have:
Epi VP - great bass
Epi Tbird E1 - OK bass, getting modded
MIK Casady - great bass
MIC Casady - heavily molded, but great bass
Epi Explorer bass - ok, but neck is not rigid enough
Epi Hummingbird - great acoustic for the $
Epi Accubass neck - the one with the Explorer headstock. This is a great neck that will find it's way onto a better body

Hey Dave @Stealth57. Read about the big jewelry store heist. But this has me more concerned about your safety:

Definitely. The first 2 were Basil, so even better. Did two more biopsy's today. Possibly squamous for one, maybe more likely basil, the other one may be neither and just an imperfection. Yes, she found the only imperfection I have. Opting for radiation as opposed to cutting, checking, more cutting, check and more cutting as needed. More visits but this will keep my retirement plan of being a model still in play.

Wife had a weird thing on her back. They treated it like melanoma and sent it off to a lady in Cal that wrote a book on such things. She wasn't sure either, Big scar on her back from two surgeries. One she woke up during!!!!

Of that bunch I only got to play the Gojira, but what a pleasure that was! Great sounding, looking and feeling with lots of little innovations incorporated into the build.

I used it earlier this year for a TSC gig in the East Bay (Ivy Room) - held it down solidly!
