Thunderbird Club

I have spoken to players on cruises I’ve been on. They said it’s something they were doing for a change, certainly not a career. One guy did something else on the ship; he helped with excursion organizing in the mornings. They generally eat well, had to share a cramped cabin, and only very occasionally got to leave the ship. Not something I’d be into, but I suppose for someone young with no other commitments, it might be a good way to play all the time and become a better musician. And maybe meet girls…
The drummer I met did the tour booking thing too. This was early in the days of computer usage and he was 'fluent'. AFA meeting girls, unlike "The Love Boat", highly discouraged by the cruise line.

And that’s the fun of being young!
I played onboard ship(s) for two cruises. And we had an airport on the roof.

I assume early to mid 1980’s
Chuck “Don Johnson” Stiletti - one tattered hat away from channeling Jed Clampett, but light years away from either on bass.

My 1980’s look was much less GQ than yours…

PS - lots of drinks freely flowing that night and someone at the table dared my wife to do something for me that we won’t discuss on this forum, I had to remind her there were cameras out and it probably wouldn’t be a good idea. The live music was a great local band, The Raisins…

Very sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope things are getting for everyone.

I still love the burgundy Jazz. What a color.
Thank you for your kind words and condolences-

So, the Jazz color is what Fender called Candy Cola which is a pretty shade of a deeper red than Fiesta or Candy Apple. No longer offered- but I managed to snag a 2011 60th Anniversary Precision in the same color but with the stock white pick guard.

The 07 Jazz came with the aftermarket tortoise shell pick guard (along with the stock white one) and I believe that's what makes the Candy Cola pop-

Thought about getting one for the Precision but Fender originals are pricey (around 65 USD and up). Aftermarket ones are cheaper but they don't have the relief notches allowing trussrod adjustments without having to remove the neck. But then again I could get my luthier friend to groove out the notch for a nominal fee such as a lunch at the local taqueria -

Do you think it's worth the trouble to make a pick guard swap?

Having a matched pair with that look would rock.

Candy Cola is a beautiful color! IIRC, they offered a limited run of one of their models in it within the last few years.

My kid saw your photo, says you're rockin' it.
Well, because you are...

I was definitely full of the **** that night, we were opening for another band and while I'm not competitive when it comes to music, but in this situation I get pretty wound up and really wanted to play a good show, I had their set list before hand and deliberately choose stuff that was a little off from what '80s cover bands usually do.

So I've had to make some adjustments in the high-rise having recieved a polite text from management to tone my sound down a month or so ago- this was within minutes of playing through my RH 450 and 2 X 10 at what I thought was a reasonable level at 10:45 PM.

So now I go with a 1/4 to 1/8 jack stereo cable from the RH 450 headphones out (on the right) into my computer sound system- Yamaha HS 8S Sub Woofer and a pair of HS5 monitor speakers via a four way 1/8 inch stereo switcher with which I can select computer, bass amp, and guitar amp headphones outputs.

The bass sounds surprsisingly good without disturbing the neighbors- previously some of my basses didn't sound that good at the lower volumes I was playing through the RH 450 cab. I also found that to be true for guitar when playing at lower levels through my Mesa Boogie 5:25.

For guitar I replaced the Mesa with a boss Katana 50 3rd Gen EX which is about half the weight and comes with built in effects and optional foot controller if I don't feel like lugging a massive pedalboard to small or impromptu gigs- it also sports a headphones out that I can send to the four way selector for my computer sounds system, a USB connection for programming and DAW interface, as well as a line out which the Mesa lacked-

If you're wondering - a guitar buddy had previously accused me of being a "shoe gazer" so I felt the need to dispel that accusation!

I've also found the little Yamaha THR5 to be really convenient

for late night practice sessions with the guitar though you can't change the effects in real time. But I've alleviated the issue with some pedals seen to right of the main pedalboard of the previous pictures-

With regard to my previous post I must say that I prefer to play bass over guitar, but I do like playing some guitar music. But that's contingent on the type of music. With bass I enjoy the instrument in and of itself in addition to the music- something about those thick strings and throaty low tones-

So, I'm not anti-guitar, but I have to be highly motivated by specific music to want to play one-

Bet it didn’t sound like this version.
