Thunderbird Club

I’ve had my ‘77 since it was new. Other than a couple junky MIJ basses that preceded it, its pretty much my reference point for all basses. I have never had a chance to try a ‘64.
I have a ‘15 with the tapped DeColas. It’s about as perfect for me as a bass can be. That’s my reference point and it sets a very high bar. Although my ‘77 is maybe a pound heavier, it’s pretty much right there for me on my don’t want to put it down scale.

If you could have either a 1964 or a Bicentennial, which would you prefer (ignoring collectability, etc.) and why?

I like '64 better than either of my '76s, its a little lighter (8lbs) only has one pickup (which I prefer), to my ear it sounds better and possibly because it's a Road Warrior the neck just feels so nice to me.

It's a love affair, all the other Birds get some time, but this one's really it.

Is something being planned? If so, I’ve got some medical stuff I don’t want to schedule and miss out on a GTG.

Nothing yet, we can chat about it all you guys want - Seattle's still an option, as is anywhere else.

Thanks. My only set in stone date next year is July 31st/ August 1st for the 50th H.S. reunion. I should probably go to that.

Mine is next year too, probably not going - I was an awkward, not popular, none too pretty teenager. Not much has change in 50 years. :woot:

As far as I know, we only had a 10 and 20 year reunion. I missed the 20. The 10 was interesting, to say the least.

Many of use were/are in that boat. Meanwhile, you are wildly popular here with the Thunderbird tribe!

West Coast mini GTG will have a 64. Hopefully, a bicentennial as well. Any updates GEORGE? Check the DMs.

I’ll be in the Monterey area from Nov 6th to the 10th for a 5K run and will have some free time on Friday the 7th and Sunday the 9th. So a few weeks ago I contacted the locals up there (Chuck, Geo, Dave and Ringhammer) to see if they’d be interested in hosting a mini no frills GTG. I could bring two or three basses and a portable amp or maybe a small combo if someone up there was willing to host the event.

Chuck can’t make it, haven’t heard from Geo, Dave graciously offered to host (although he warned of killer dogs running loose in the yard). I don’t recall if Ringhammer can make it on either of those days. So right now it’s just Dave and I if we decide to do it. Again, no frills, I’ll bring some drinks and we’ll have pizza delivered while we jam around in the backyard. But unless we get a couple more attendees it’s probably not worth Dave’s time to host it or my time to haul gear.

The Gear I was potentially planning on bringing - Bicentennial Tbird, ThunderCaster Tbird, Lull Tom Petersson Tbird, Mesa Scout amp or Markbass 12” combo. So if others are interested in joining in PM me or @Stealth57

Regardless of the potential mini GTG I would like to attend some of the club talent local to the Bay Area. So if any of you Bay Area boys has a show going on Friday, Saturday or Sunday evening that first week in November let me know, I’d like to attend, feed the tip jar and maybe buy some merch.

I finally was able to carve out time for a 45 mile ride yesterday. When I finished (14mph average in a 10+ mph wind, not bad for me lately) I still had energy so the 65 mile Livestrong ride is looking doable! I haven't let my donors down yet; I don't plan to do so this year. (Not that anyone would be upset. All cool people.)

How often, if ever, do you find yourself using the tug bar?

I've never had hands on a bass that had one, and the concept of use is sort of a mystery to me.
