Thunderbird Club

Gigpics from two recent gigs. And I’m sorry, no Thunderbird, just a Martin and a Greco.

So cool Ken!

That’s a nice pic of a very cool power duo!
Thanks, guys. We even got a try a brand new song we'd never played live before. Not even completely finished with the full band. James has been writing a lot lately (art thrives in tough times), and including two older songs he wants to re-record, we're already about halfway to a new album.

A new Thunderbird was born today!

Last night was the first time playing my Swanky Spider with a drummer. It cut through pretty well considering the nickel Daddarios. Stainless steel will be going on it - I may need to add the tailpiece sooner than later to use 34” strings.
My buddy didn’t play this kit (there are 3 others in the room), but I had to get this shot:View attachment 7364091
Roger that!

Tbird tone in all its glory!

Album out 02/26. Tour starts in February. Presale this Tuesday.
Yep. I’m excited! I was hoping for an Austin date and an excuse for a visit to Miles and Sharon. But sadly no.

Love the song. Hate the lack of Austin date chance to hang out!

Hmm. San Antone …

I can barely deal with 4 strings but that’s gorgeous.

…just testing for forthcoming gigs, a short testing sound wise only without any reordering through a virtual ashdown rig….all basses are great players….

….the ranking is…

1) Greco TBR90 1988 with Greco pups, no name strings, basswood body, sound’s closest to my 66 NR
2) Cataldo NR4232 2019 with 63 Thunderbuckers, Honduras mahogany body, Roto flats, lightweight
3) Gibson Babybird 2011 with original pups, Babicz bridge, perfect for early 70s covers…
4) BaCH BTH-2 2011 with David Barfuss pups, sound between Mike Lull and 66 Thunderbuckers….
5) Epiphone 64 bass 2024 with GHS low tension flats, pups seem to sound different to the Vintage Pro’s….
6) Greco TB 900 1978 with Bartolini TB pup, no mid and treble, may work well for HM..
7) BaCH FT-2 Fenderbird with (wax potted) EY-buckers a bit weak compared to the others…

…not included are studio use only basses (65, 66NR, 76)

IMG_1697.jpeg

….and basses recently used on stage (BaCH BTH-1 w/ Mike Lull PU, 2017 Epiphone VP)

…one bird is not enough, need at least two (or more) …

Won’t matter which one you rock.
It’s you that’ll make it speak.2e542a42-8466-4261-9794-cad6dd7adb7c.jpeg
