My understanding is that most of them (probably not the entry level amps) have built-in protection circuits.
I am. I do not. I wish! I have stood 5 feet in front of him when he was playing.
He's known for being able to hear things (including differences) that most of us can't. AFAIK, though, he can't hear the voices in my head!
He told me he could.
But maybe it's the voices.

Another ‘Hook has gone. Skyhooks Guitarist Bob “Bongo Starr” Starkie 73 after battling leukaemia, passed away listening to Chuck Berry.
In later years Bob had his own Skyhooks Tribute band going just so he could continue in his love of music.
Skyhooks were a big part of my young teen years, exploding onto the scene in glam style costumes (and colourful stage names) just as Colour TV was released in Australia.
