I don't know, but it's a fact. I find singing and playing the upright easier than singing and playing the bass guitar. That really and truly makes no sense. I have not tried sining and playing drums, so no aesthetic issues with that just yet. Besides, I always get a lobotomy when picking up the sticks and instantly forget all that chord stuff those other people think is important. It's kinda nice.1. Singing and playing bass is difficult (but not singing and guitaring - why is that?)

I'm completely with John Goodman there mate.
Sorry to be so coldly dismissive of he-who-shall-not-be-named, but y'now I dislike everything about him and his band. He is the anti-Duck.
If there were a bass-player Heaven, I'd like to be in the one with Duck, Ron Blair and Billy Talbot (oh and John Entwistle, Ronnie Lane, Bruce Foxton, Phil Lynott, Trevor Bolder and George Murray). The 'Heaven' with he-who-shall-not-be-named, Les Claypool and JacoP? I believe that has another name ... also beginning with 'H'.
But à chacun son goût, as they say. It would be a dull world if we all liked the same thing.

Now tell us what you really think. You are being shy again.
Oh, you know I'm always Very Serious (tm).It should ALL be taken in good humour Will.
Barbarism works just fine on the upright, too. It's the only reason I can play one.It should ALL be taken in good humour Will.
[edit] I'll let Jaco off as he is really a jazz player and that a different art-form to rock and roll, although upright always fits jazz better (to my barbarian ears).
Like most non-instrumentalist front men... he sounds like a narcissistic control freak. The other guys probably didn't agree with him, but recognized that they had a good thing going and didn't want to rock the boat. I suppose it's also conceivable that the narcissistic control freak singer owned all the gear! Remember boys & girls... the music comes first... right? If the singer doesnt play an instrument I dont believe his opinion should count. I auditioned for a band once without hearing their material and when I got there I found out they were only doing covers and that bummed me right out fast. After a few covers the singers asks "what do you got"? and I say "original material" and he says "show us what you got"!. I start some grooves and the drummer gets right into it and the guitar player is making magic and it sounds Fn' awesome and both of those guy's are looking at each other smiling and the singer got this constipated look on his face and yells "STOP"! into his mic and says "We dont do stuff like that"!. As I walk out of the singers house the drummer asks if we can get together again and I say "not if your singer has anything to do with it". Never seen them again, never worried about it.

OOO... OOO... pick me! Pick me! I always wanteda be an iddeeuhlog! ... and I'm always SOOPER serious!!!Oh, you know I'm always Very Serious (tm).
I'm probably going to violate some rules by doing this, but what the heck. My brother, some friends, and I decided we needed a new political party. Except it wouldn't be a party. It would be the Very Serious Organization (tm). We were Serious People. We had a great bumper sticker slogan: Serious Times Requre Serious People and We're Serious. (tm) We were an organizaton becasue parties are frivolity, and we wouldn't tolerate that kind of thing. Unfortunately, nobody signed on as the chief ideologue to tell us what we thought about anything, so we had to disband.
I still think you were being reticent and need to let it out. Seriously.![]()
What kinds of birds do you guys play? Who makes the best bird?
Ok T'Birders. Using a new iPhone (latest updates) via safari. I no longer get "reply with quote" ( whatever it was called), so the multiple quoting isn't working for me.
That is if I hit the quote button on a post, the quote does not appear in my reply.
Any ideas ?
Bass is one note at a time, mostly, and the way you hit it is important. You're also often playing a melody on the bass- and singing another melody (again, attack and delivery being imporant) that is either subtly or radically different than the one you're holding down a groove with is like chewing gum, walking on a narrow wall, and reciting Lincoln's Gettysburg Address backwards, with your eyes closed.1. Singing and playing bass is difficult (but not singing and guitaring - why is that?)
