Ok T'Birders. Using a new iPhone (latest updates) via safari. I no longer get "reply with quote" ( whatever it was called), so the multiple quoting isn't working for me.
That is if I hit the quote button on a post, the quote does not appear in my reply.

Any ideas ?
Nope. And the ability to edit just after hitting "post reply" is gone. I'm embarrassed by the number of typos lately.

Oh, you know I'm always Very Serious (tm).

I'm probably going to violate some rules by doing this, but what the heck. My brother, some friends, and I decided we needed a new political party. Except it wouldn't be a party. It would be the Very Serious Organization (tm). We were Serious People. We had a great bumper sticker slogan: Serious Times Requre Serious People and We're Serious. (tm) We were an organizaton becasue parties are frivolity, and we wouldn't tolerate that kind of thing. Unfortunately, nobody signed on as the chief ideologue to tell us what we thought about anything, so we had to disband.

I still think you were being reticent and need to let it out. Seriously. :D

I could of been your Queen :woot:

I tried scanning all the thousands of pages of posts that I've missed, not sure if anyone seen this :

Epiphone Thunderbird Vintage PRO Bass - Ebony

I got an update from my Sweetwater Rep yesterday, Ebony and Alpine White are what he mentioned, I didn't ask about the 'Burst.

I'm completely with John Goodman there mate.

Sorry to be so coldly dismissive of he-who-shall-not-be-named, but y'now I dislike everything about him and his band. He is the anti-Duck.

If there were a bass-player Heaven, I'd like to be in the one with Duck, Ron Blair and Billy Talbot (oh and John Entwistle, Ronnie Lane, Bruce Foxton, Phil Lynott, Trevor Bolder and George Murray). The 'Heaven' with he-who-shall-not-be-named, Les Claypool and JacoP? I believe that has another name ... also beginning with 'H'.

But à chacun son goût, as they say. It would be a dull world if we all liked the same thing.

I like them, but more than that I appreciate them. Doing your own thing- that makes you stand out and get horrible reviews, and renown/notoriety from peers, but you continue in it anyway, and feel you're getting better at it, and getting satisfaction from it- that takes "cojones".

Even when they make me feel slightly uncomfortable ( like during the ending to "Anthem"), there's that.
But I can dig a good, qualified opinion, especially from someone I have respect for.

What kinds of birds do you guys play? Who makes the best bird?
I have a Gibson and an Epi bolt on Goth. The Gibson is hands down the best bass I own. The neck is awesome. Hardly ever needs to be tuned or requires a tweak to the trussrod. Fretwork is first rate. It only has one tiny finish flaw where there are a few bubbles caused by extruded fretboard glue. And it takes a keen eye in good light to see them. I've said more times than I can count, I love it.

I don't know, but it's a fact. I find singing and playing the upright easier than singing and playing the bass guitar. That really and truly makes no sense. I have not tried sining and playing drums, so no aesthetic issues with that just yet. Besides, I always get a lobotomy when picking up the sticks and instantly forget all that chord stuff those other people think is important. It's kinda nice.
I can sing and play drums but cant sing and strum, what the hell?.

In no particular order:

Gibson: 2001 ebony/2013 50th Anniversary/2001 Blackbird
Epiphone: Rebuilt Goth, Non-Rev x 2 (sea foam green and refin-modded white)
Bach: Non-Reverse (thin body version)
Hamer: 1986 FBIV x 2 (black and sunburst)
Spector: 4X (modded all electronics)
Fernandes: Spector Sixx non-rev model
Nocturnal: (Warmoth body, Carvin neck, my name)

No clue who makes the best Bird. The 2001 Gibson in ebony is hands down my favorite bass. I have a special bond with that one that I have never had with another bass. The black Hamer FBIV is a close second to the Gibson but a totally different beast. I have never tried a Cataldo, Lull, or Lowe but I bet those are pretty sweet basses to play,

If the singer doesnt play an instrument I dont believe his opinion should count. I auditioned for a band once without hearing their material and when I got there I found out they were only doing covers and that bummed me right out fast. After a few covers the singers asks "what do you got"? and I say "original material" and he says "show us what you got"!. I start some grooves and the drummer gets right into it and the guitar player is making magic and it sounds Fn' awesome and both of those guy's are looking at each other smiling and the singer got this constipated look on his face and yells "STOP"! into his mic and says "We dont do stuff like that"!. As I walk out of the singers house the drummer asks if we can get together again and I say "not if your singer has anything to do with it". Never seen them again, never worried about it.

I had the opposite in a way. I'm working on a tribute act and wasn't looking for an original band at this stage of the game. These guys sent me vid links and they really are good and I like the music. They had me run through the four songs I worked on and this is the first time I ever played in drop C in my life.

After the songs the singer stepped out and the rest just fired songs and riffs one after another. I felt like I was getting beat like a baby seal. I held my own and this was the first time I ever heard any of this. The one guitarist seemed less patient than the other one, but I remembered reeding their website and they have 8 gigs booked over a six week period starting halfway through July. We ended up stopping an hour later than supposed to and I had a 90 minute drive home. Also had to lug my 75 lb combo, extension cab and two basses up and down stairs.

The singer was shooting the bull with me when we were only ones there, but once all others finally showed up, it was all playing and no small talk. It is a hard read, but drummer said most guys so far can't pick up things fast and I did do well with that.

One never knows what people are thinking and it was really hard to read them. Ironically my current singer called when I was playing. He has to see a specialist next week and concerned that the three of us are looking for other gigs.

So it's not a deal breaker, but I was hoping Cherry would be a choice. All three look good.

I am somewhat relieved* that there is no cherry. I already put myself on the hook for a Red JC when those are released. If there were a cherry `Bird, I would have to get one of those also. I really didn't feel a need to expand out to 6 basses so quickly.

*Relieved meaning feeling somewhat fiscally responsible, but still secretly hoping that a cherry bird comes from either Epiphone or Gibson in the next year or so.

I have an Epiphone Pro-v - wide flat neck. The proverbial aircraft carrier. I also have an Epiphone neck through 4

Are you trying to start an Squier vs. 7ender thing here?
No I am honestly not familiar with all the companies that make birds. We opened for Deicide and that guy a had a cool esp bird.

There should be 'Bird Book, kind of laid out like an Audubon album, or a Sibley' s Book of Birds.

Not gonna do it, maybe @TBird1958 ?...

Can't think of a more qualified, better-plumed 'bird for the gig!

You gotta do what you gotta do, but kindness goes a long way. Just sayin' I've kinda been there.
Good luck with the gig though!

First bird was regular Epiphone, sounded kinda dead and sold it.

Got a 2012 silver burst and liked it, even dropped Gibson pickups in it. Sold it after I got my Gibson.

Won the auction on the 2007 Gibson with a bid of 625$. Was in shock.

Bought a got bird as a backup. Still have but is up for sale.

Got another Epiphone with a hipshot bridge and EMG pickups from an estate sale, that is the one I used last night.

Never played an Orville or Greco but I know they have a great rep

Something like a Lull, is way over my price point right now.
