As fantastic as JPJ was as a musician and arranger of LZ in the studio, no one will ever top Jon Lord, the sound he could get and the way he played - damn, he was great, perfect foil to Blackmore in every way.

So true of many popular bands back then. Many bar/cover bands sounded better. Never saw DP live, but all their live videos I've seen, they killed it.
Turned into a shite show when the lead singer said he didn't want to do our arrangement of some of the songs. Drummer almost walked out in the first 10 minutes. Practice at home for two weeks and then this...Tonight's rehearsal:

been playing that one for years now....just lead vocals, sometimes a guitarist (who sings) in the rotation will add 3rds or 5ths or whatever.....the trick to that bass line (imho) is the the raking of ghost notes (during the verse) to create that bounce....believe those octaves get popped (in the original) during the chorus..... real crowd pleaser....Peg! - how many singers do you have?

Sounds like the singer is (still) firmly convinced it's his band and y'all are his backup band. Unless he started it, hired others, or everyone gave him control--it's a team effort. He can ask and say "can we do these songs another way," and if the others say no, this he doesn't get his way.
