Thunderbird Club

Did you make it to the Hanukkah show the other night?
No. I haven't been to a Hanukkah show since before the pandemic. I should get back. It was a lot more fun and intimate when they were at Maxwell's in Hoboken. Last time (Bowery Ballroom) Lucinda Williams was there and did an absolutely beautiful version of VU's Pale Blue Eyes.

None here either.

I'd rather have the AMX any day. Stands out, among other things.
Watch any auction and there's more Corvettes than shrimp in the Gulf.
Of the three, I would want a two seat Thunderbird, then an AMX, Corvette third. My brother had a '68 or '69 AMX that we called Jezebel the Rocket Ship. The car was well named. It was stupid fast, but it would bite if you weren't paying attention. It was a great car, but my dimwit brother sold it. Without a whole lot of modification and updates, a two seat Thunderbird isn't going to touch an AMX in any respect when it comes to performance. Just over a decade of technological advances made a huge difference.

Oh, Gibson. The Mod collection has zero basses (as usual), but does have two Firebirds. A 1963 Firebird 1 reissue at $6500 and a Firebird Platypus (III) for $2900. The hardware (pickups, bridge type) are different, but nowhere near $3600 different.
The expensive one is a one pickup Junior with the pickup right at the bridge. Aside from the color, the cheaper one looks like one I would want more. But oh, well. I won't be buying either one. Besides, I just bought a staggeringly expensive five string bass guitar. Expensive relative to a cup of coffee, but everything is relative.

Funny thing about the five string. I picked it up as an experiment for a specific band. That band has always been a zoo when it comes to scheduling rehearsals. The guitarist and nominal band leader had a melt-down over this and we are on hiatus until February.

Why so upset that you bought a bass? 🤷‍♂️
