Thunderbird Club

That post was either a troll, or an ultra newb who didn't understand the basics.

The goth was certainly NOT bead from the factory. And not "d standard" either. They come strung and set up for eadg like everything else. Even putting a .115 on for drop C required me to crimp the string in order to get it to fit in the bridge.

Don't let that guy troll us into thinking nu metal bead goths.

The corvette tyranis was a unique beast in that regard. The rest of the world modifies their nut and setup to go bead
Slow yer roll mon frair...
Actually... I had just read somebody else post that mentioned that the goth shipped BEAD. I hadn't known that prior to reading that posting. I wasn't saying anything "bad" about the Goth... or anything else for that matter...

I have my T-bird in BEAD.

I don't really count filing a nut as a modification, really. To me they're almost as expendable as strings.

Was wondering when someone else would chime in with real info. I did notice the poster didn't reply to my question about what size strings came on it.

Wasn't taken as you saying bad things about the mighty $349 goth, just trying to prevent the spread of misinformation whenever I can ;)

Funnily enough... my eldest daughter has expressed interest in playing bass. Based on our conversations in this forum, and her specific style and interests... I'm gonna try & get her a Goth for her birthday next month (which will of course give me the opportunity to check one out);)

Oh man dont you love that hysteria you feel when you make any single alteration to your basses electronics and you start dialing in these friggin' furious bastard loads of face melting jack hammering foundation smashing heapings of clear and vintage sounding bluesy metal tones played in the aura of 70's European Progressive Rock fused with some Doom?. Noodled for an hour and a half. Probably the one closest thing Ive done in a while resembling exercise......Damn!.

Breathe man... breathe! It's cool... it's cool... she's not here bro. Goolookin' out...:cautious:

Actually... my staggeringly brilliant, soon to be 17 year old, has finished high school already! In fact... she scored a 1380 on her SATs... at 16 years old!!! I have nnnooooooo idea where she got that from! As she did last summer... she's living with friends & family in northern Michigan, working 40-60 hour weeks in a bakery, and she'll be starting college in the Fall. Her passion is music (now that I think I can take at least partial credit for). Her last birthday, it was an electric guitar. Christmas brought an acoustic (and a ukulele from her baby Sis). Several times over the past couple of years, she's expressed interest in the bass, and after a recent chat with her sister... yup... now is the time, and T-bird Goth is the bass. It just fits!:D:bassist::thumbsup:

Whoa your friggin' Amazing are you kidding me?!. That is right and you are Amazing!. I pulled out the .47 that came with it and I put in a Sprague Orange Tone Drop that was too heavy and it bottomed out too deep and robbed my volume and my highs. That was over a year ago when I got the Bird with the original pick up but today I put in the original .47 tone drop and it sounds amazing living with my Ric pickups.

So awesome!, a Bird will find its way into your arms either way regardless of the size mitts your sporting.. If I was in close proximity to you I would have been down 4 cans of FAXE 8.0% beer with you by now.......like I am now .......but over here.

Ya know, with the exchange rate... that's only like 2 1/2 of "our" beers...

Yeah... about that... spending a ridiculous number of hours researching online & talkin' with all you guys & stuff... I've come to the conclusion that I'm just gonna hafta find some way to deal with the fact that, barring a substantial lotto win or sup'm, I'm gonna hafta either quit trying to play the bass (yeah... like THAT'S gonna happeno_O), or find SOME way to deal with these small friggin' necks. I'm looking' at herbal s#!t to help with muscles & tendons. I'm working on the way I grip & fret. I'm losing' some weight... whatever I have to do. I've fallen madly in love with that blue NR. It's eating my brain, all day, every day. Unfortunately... my friend, to whom I'm selling my Les Paul, has suffered the woes of a fried water heater. That's going to back up my time frame for getting my bass, and most likely cause me to miss out on the Gibby. I have, however, begun talking with Carlo. I'm hoping I'll be able to get one of his masterpieces made for me! For now... I've already had an NBD that I didn't share. The 5 string Squire Jazz Bass, turned into a 4 string Jaguar Bass.

Though I was physically comfortable with it (relatively)... that 5th string just got inside my head. Keeping in mind that I'm in the infancy of my bass playing... my plucking and muting went to hell. If I tried to play unplugged, it pretty much sounded like I had dropped a box of spoons down the stairs. Also... damn near everything I listen to the most, and everything I like to play along with... was played on 4 strings. I know I could change positions up-neck & all that... but again... keeping in mind that I'm still learning how to play the damn thing... the effort/reward ratio was just too far outa whack. The last nail in the 5 string coffin, was that blue NR. When I saw that... I knew I wanted to play that. Not a 5 string version of that, or some magical mystical unicorn version of that... just THAT! So... that's when I figured out that I'm gonna hafta go to the instrument, cuz it ain't gonna come to me. I believe it was @kat888 that mentioned she had one of these Jaguar basses, while she was chewing' my a$$ for making a distasteful remark about the Squier brand. I know she has some top-drawer equipment, and I know she knows her s#!t. It really struck me that she still apparently relies on her Jaguar quite a lot. In true defeatist form... I never even pulled one off the wall, assuming it was just another thin-necked disappointment. But... Kat inspired me to pull one off the wall & take it for a spin. It was quite heavy, but very comfortable. Satiny soft finish on the surprisingly substantial feeling neck. The stock pickups sound "good" (kinda "rated PG" if ya know what I mean), but quite versatile and pleasant. Hell... I like it better than the American Standard P and Js that I tried! The finish looks as nice as the American Standards too! I think it will get me to my 'bird just fine! Kat... Thank you!
