Thunderbird Club

I bought the Shavo signature head. I hate the name across the front but its a handwired, UK built ABM600 Evo4 model in a different housing. I got it for a nice price, so I can live with the look.

I wonder what is different than the Geezer Model? There’s no compressor knob on the Geezer, so maybe that’s the only difference.

I have the Geezer model, and the four position footswitch, and when I click the compressor button, something changes. When I opened up the head and looked where the knob would be, there is a spot on the board with a resistor across it, in place of where the pot should be, so I wonder if the compressor is in the circuit but only switchable on/off and at a fixed setting?

Fellow 'Birders:
At 6:00 A.M. this morning I got a phone call that my 48 y/o Daughter, Jamie, had passed away. We don't at this time know why. I won't be on line for a while. I am basically in shock right now.
Sorry to hear that Mike - take care of yourself.

What's the function of a double VU meter? Is it two amps in one?

I wonder if that JBL was once used in the Dead’s sound system. It’s possible depending on where you found it….
The Dead did use that speaker (not mine as far as I know) - I bought another one recently as a back-up. My B-15N had an Eminence speaker that sounded good but the JBL was night & day from the first note played.

as much as I dig reverses, they're still a little goofy looking (ymmv) and unquestionably (to me) less comfortable than NRs for performing live......

I've always thought reverses were really cool looking, but NRs were funky cool looking. I've had the '64 Reverse so long it's like playing a custom made bass. Fit's like a glove, as they say. The old NR is like that. While not uncomfortable, can't say the same about the new the NR. Very different feeling.

AM (Amp Monday...) - recently acquired NOS (showroom model- never switched on) Ashdown 330 Spyder. I custom altered a 3U tweed Gator case to fit it. 'Heritage black' vinyl Tolex from Mojotone and a Furman power conditioner - backup for my 550 Spyder that Chucky is repairing. A bit less power but the same twin-tube pre goodness as my 550. '76 Ampeg B15N cab w/late '60s JBL D140R speaker - bass nirvana.

I am so sorry, Mike. Praying for you and all who loved her.

looks awesome! I would replace those Chinese 12AX-7s for some cool NOS ones....
Just thinking that. Big difference in even changing the JJs which are nice for modern tubes. I have an old late 50s Mullard in the old ABM 500 and late 50s RCA long black plate in the new ABM 300. I have found the way Ashdown uses the tube it makes more difference in those than any full tube amp I've done any rolling. I have another old Mullard and may try that in place of the RCA. It has more bass and highs and the Mullards have less of each or simply more interesting mids going on.

Oh my goodness. Speechless, Mike. So sorry. You and family will be in my prayers.

Mike, I am so sorry to hear this. I can't imagine the pain of losing a child. My prayers are with you and your family.

I managed to collect a pretty good amount of vintage tubes, both pre- and Power amp. My PF20t has all vintage Sylvania 12ax7 preamp tubes and some strong RCA 6V6 power tubes. One of the two PF50t’s I have also has Sylvania 12ax7’s and a pair of RCA 6L6’s. These little all tube PF amps are really good sounding.

My Orange AD200 has RCA 12ax7’ and Sylvania 6550’s and a spare set of GE 6550’s. Since the AD200 rarely sees any action at this time, I expect to never need to get new tubes for it. I suppose someday I’ll bring the full Orange rig to the Bad Lemon space and use it there, but for now, laziness prevails and this rig is what lives there:

Lots of tubes between these two heads….
