Thunderbird Club

For me the NR Love is as strong as the Reverse love. But after getting my Bicentennial I’ve been spoiled, I really doubt I’ll find any vintage Reverse under 10 grand out there that out plays it. So that pretty much drove the NR only search. When GC lists something vintage for a reasonable price it’s time to pick up the phone and call the listing store manager to see what kind of deal they can strike. In this case they came down off their already reasonable asking price to something I couldn’t refuse, especially considering their return policy.

So in about a week I’ll find out if the price I paid was worth it, if not, back she goes.
my 68 smokes my 79......just sayin'...hoping yours is in the right shape..... :bassist:

I played a Hondo "version" for fun in a store once way, way back when they were a thing. That I played it was all I recall.

Then Hondo shifted to making "Thunderbirds." Like Dave's, come to think of it. :smug:

when you lose vacuum, the filament oxidizes to the point it burns open when you apply the heater 6.3V..... notice it won't light up if you plug it in (you won't break anything).....it's these issues that made them obsolete.....my kid visited Nvidia the other day as part of a school project and was mentioning how they were passing around an exposed Blackwell GPU calling it the most sophisticated thing ever built by humans....what always intrigued me was the right after Roswell timeframe of the transition from vacuum to semiconductors......
Their power consumption, size, and heat also hastened their replacement.

I have several cases, but tend to use this one, even for the '64. It's not a flight case, but works perfect for me carrying the bass. I also have a TDK or something like that. I never pay attention to the label any more. Also nice and has more space--and more play.

A sturdier version of the original.
