Thunderbird Club

Lost Wages...

Back in 2022 I wrote them about the possibility of an Alpine Whiter Explorer bass with gold hardware- they were polite but said that the Custom Shop does not take requests for basses, just guitars ...
Given some strong responses regarding my post, I dug up the actual conversation dated March 18, 2022 - though they did state that they didn't take orders for basses, there was no statement about "only guitars" which was my inference- I apologize for clouding the issue with my misstatement, though it may have been true regarding their policy at the time -

Who knows? Perhaps they/ve since changed their policy-

It looks the part and probably sounds like a Thunderbird with soapbar pickups. What is your take on it so far?

Congratulations on your new bass!! What do you think so far?

So far feels like a great bass .

Build quality is miles better than Gibson tbird 92 i had long ago and especially Epiphone E1

Bass is very light and it’s surprised me the most , a bit of neck dive but nothing serious imo.

Split coil mode sounds pretty close to the Gibson tbird, full humbucker mode is more modern and aggressive .

Body feels v more comfortable than Gibsons/Epi but neck is flatter U shape , great to play when you stand and not so when you sit .

This popped up in my Spotify feed today. Memories! This is what I was listening to in 1971 🤣

Daddy Cool by Daddy Cool, a cover but a real blast to hear it. Daddy Cool best known for Eagle Rock, came to the US 3 times in 71 & 72, most popular in LA (did you see them Marshall? ) and toured with Capt Beefhart. The lead singer and main song writer, Ross Wilson, produced Skyhooks first (and biggest) albums, and later formed Mondo Rock.
Daddy Cool had the biggest selling Australian album until Skyhooks hit, and then many years later John Farnham eclipsed all comers.

Thanks for sharing! I'll check it out- Your mention of Song of the South made me think of this- and there's one of those SG- shaped basses - an E- something- sorry I can't keep track of them-

Always thought Jim Dandy had to be the inspiration for David Lee Roth. Didn't mind the music for the time, but couldn't stand Dandy's voice. Like Kermit the frog on coke or something.
John Bonham was kind of famous for doing drum solos with his hands. The dude from BOA was actually doing it before Bonham was.

I was a bit too young to have seen them. With only a couple exceptions, my concert going didn’t really begin until ‘73 when an older buddy who liked music as much as I did started driving us. Didn’t get my license until ‘74…I still can’t believe the stuff my parents let me do…yet somehow I survived.
