Thunderbird Club

working on that...under 3 hopefully.....
My timing buying my '76 B15N was (inadvertently) spot-on. $850 shipped! :woot: Shortly after I got it, BassPlayer mag had a front page pic of the new Ampeg Heritage RI - which caused prices to skyrocket on vintage B15's. It was made for 20yrs (1960-1980) so there are a lot of them around. Every legit recording studio in the US and possibly abroad has one.

Old pic w/my '64II - stained grill cloth was replaced years ago and I installed a late '60s JBL speaker also - bass nirvana...

Thanks. It does with the La Bella Black Nylons that Chuck suggested. As you well know I struggled a lot with it. It's a beautiful bass--when there were questions of QC. Mine's as good as you can ask for and plays superbly. I suspect it would sound really good with rounds with the Ashdown given it tightens up tone nicely. But I love the black on black look for something different and given how it sounds I can't imagine putting something else on it.
mine's staying this way, would probably sell it otherwise....

The early square-box cab w/AMPEG clear illuminated plate versions are cool - that's what they modeled the Heritage RI after. (around $3K when new) My '76 is the only significant change Ampeg did over those 20yrs. The cab grew taller (a port floor added) - it was called the Thiel Cabinet. That's what I have. I really hope there isn't a BS bias for one or the other because I'm absolutely certain BOTH sound amazing and whichever one you are lucky enough to own... it's a stone cold tie in terms of awesomeness.

@RedVee .....our Fords were not only faster but also WAY cheaper!......;)

😊

Cheaper in the numbers you made. Plus those prices include sales tax.

The Falcon GT 351 (and HO’s) and Monaro GTS327 & GTS350 were plenty fast enough.

The same ad in 2026 (at least before this petrol shortage) would have another zero on them, or more.

(Of course modern cars would leave them in the dust performance wise)

I don't mind the black Hipshot on my '06, but nothing looks right to me but a two piece. Been playing and looking at one for 44 years and that's the only thing that looks normal to me.

I guess this looks kind of normal because the black pups already make it look somewhat not normal.

I think it works great on this and on white birds with black pickups.

j/k.....thought it would have been mostly an exchange rate thing......

Love the looks of that XB Goss Special Falcon Sport!
Yes, that’s a Ford I’d love - it even has my initials JGS, it’s a John Goss Special in full.

It got nicknamed the Goose (that can’t fly) because it only had the 302. We all reckoned as the 1974 Bathurst 1000 winner in a XA Falcon GT Hardtop he deserved for “his car” to at least have the 351 as an option.

I used to like the blue & gold over white version. But now, especially after this article, I think I prefer the green & gold over white.
