I play drums, more or less. And don't practice that much. And haven't played with a band since about a year after the pandemic. So, yeah, it's a drummer problem.

can you blame them? who makes a commitment to beat on skins for the rest of their lives....So many drummers hit 2 and 4 like their snare drum pi$$ed them off.

Yep - after playing with loud drummers for years, I noticed the difference immediately playing with BG's new drummer Scott who understands & respects band sound dynamics. I could hear everyone's input, I could play with more finesse/nuance and expression, our singer didn't have to push her voice and we sounded like music I'd like listening to as an audience member. I generally refer to a delivery like that as being "pro" (operating with professionalism). Obviously some songs are 'loud', but unless you are in a punk or thrash or metal band - at rehearsal a too loud drummer forces everyone else to play too loud so they can hear themselves and the result is amateur hour. Transferred to a live gig and it becomes an audience onslaught. A pro sensibility drummer can play loud when it fits, and plays with nuance and finesse at a balanced volume in general.

Chuck - I’m really liking that entire band line up! Possibly the best sounding band I’ve heard you in yet. Dead solid in every position - drums to guitar, vocals and keys, not to mention the phenomenal bass playing. Can’t wait to drop in on a gig of yours this spring or summer.

LOL - I’m so far down the bass talent pecking order there’s no beak left when it comes time to peck me.
The bottles reminded me of a story from way back. A friend lived at UofL. We were professional drinkers at the time and kept the regular fridge full of beer. He had a room mate and we began to notice our beer would at times be reduced in numbers due to no fault of our own. Talking to him was useless so we came up with a plan. One bottle placed in certain handy first spot would be finished and replenished with "recycled" beer you could say. I think we both "donated" for than blended approach. The cap was carefully placed back on and bottle in that certain spot. It sat for a number of days to the point we never thought too much about it other than avoid it.
A bunch of guys were over playing cards one night and a dude I didn't know helped himself to our beer and grabbed the "double pasteurized" bottle. Cracked it open and began chugging. He had a weird look and was saying something as he was trying to remove said liquid from his mouth--what hadn't already gone down. Couldn't make out exactly what he was saying, but sounded like "KISS" or something. We understood he wasn't saying "KISS" after all. A friend of mine was in town from the Marines and chuckled once he figured out what happened. The dude wasn't happy and thought Brian did it and got a little wordy to him while standing over Brian who was seated. Brian told him he just got in town and even he had had to admit it was funny--and he better take a seat before his night got worse. He got some water (unused), and left as I recall.
Not at all suggesting you do that. But seeing bottles of beer all lined up like that often reminds me of that episode from days gone by. Disgusting I know. I'm not proud of a lot of things I did back then, but it was fitting for the roommate who kept stealing our beer. The sad part the intended target didn't get the treat, but the new and unknown dude who helped himself to our beer getting it wasn't a total loss. We were serious about messing with our beer.
