Thunderbird Club

I can't see ever getting rid of the V-4BH though I could use the ABM 300 and be happy. But the V-4B I could see selling at some point
I’m the opposite. I have a V4BH (AV version), and I much more prefer the V4B. If you want to sell your V4B let me know. I’d like a 2nd one to use live while the one I have stays parked at the (2nd floor) studio.
The V-4BH heads. That silver and blue cloth is so classy

The silver/blue cloth one is the V4B, not the V4BH.

Keep in mind that an Ampeg V-4B is not a smaller/lighter version of an SVT. The V-4Bs are brighter and tighter and some ways more aggressive. But sound fantastic loud and the power tubes compress. Wonderful. Also very loud even for 100w. (But we are talkign tube watts after all.) Dial them back a little and the make a pretty decent guitar amp.

When I tried the second head at Music-go-round in years ago that was the sound I wanted and been searching for.

This V-4B Classic is the only V-4B (100w) that goes in the SVT direction.

What I play through every week. Same head as above. Sold the one on top. These have the same pre as SVTs, but obviously different power sections.

This is in the front room. Different sounding amp that those above.

My cousin’s partner has a guitar collection and one time I was over I grabbed his Jaguar bass and gave it a burl through this.

Loved it, and it made the floor shake 🤣 but the Jag not so much. Needed Thunderbird pickups! 😊

My only issue is I can’t play it for more than an hour as my arm sits on the sharp edge of the body. I end up with a red dent in my forearm.

I do alternate between the Electar and Dark Stars. Both have their own distinct sound.
I use a 6" terrycloth sweat band on my strumming forearm when playing my hollowbody. Trick I learned when still trying to conquer my LP 6er.

No red marks, much more comfy, and the instrument stays cleaner.

I didn't know you had on of these (BH [AV version of a BH?]). Or forgot. What about the V-4B AV do you like better?

I do keep thinking about it Rob. I guess I'm a little concerned I may regret letting it go so I'm going slow. (If I go slower than you want and need it, let me know and may be able to speed up. Don't think I would miss it as I'm happy with the ABM at home. But then the head and cab look crazy good! The thing sound fantastic pushed hard--I just can't do that at home.
My playing situation may change in the coming months and I'm not sure which rig I would need to use. I want to use my Heritage 410 with the BH and ABM on top, but there may be a space issue and suppose the AV rig may get pressed into service and leave the house. Not good as the 410 is not an option for the home rig.

Lol, l saw the skits, but those are real life direct quotes.

And nothing could wreck me like seeing the Bass -0-Matic sketch the first time when I was 12ish.e
Actually not. Somehow repetition on social media became considered "news." It got repeated and passed around so much It was "truth" after that. At the time a person was talking about it and saying "the person" said it and they saw it. I'm like, that was Tina Fey--you don't know the difference? Not a fan of the person in question, but am of accuracy.
What was actually said was "They’re our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska," which is clearly not the same thing.

Same here. I still remember laughing so hard I had trouble breathing when I saw that when it first aired. SNL was really special back then. I would have been 14.

Somebody say....

I don't play my hollow-body basses all the time, but I hear you - it's also an often sighted issue with Ric's. I occasionally will have interface with my forearm but my right hand is mostly floating over the strings supported by my pinky finger as a grounding point so it's never a major issue for me.

the Klystron is an absolute beast....two ABM 550Watt independent output modules....Palladino used to go out with two into two Ashdown 8x10 fridges and his P with The Who....
