Same here - for the way I want to hear my basses, adding the Seymour Duncan Hawkbucker B-pu in the late '80s (before doing such was considered sacrilegious) on my '64 II gave it more definition which made the bass sound perfect to me. (still does) Back then it was the only bass I owned and I wanted it to suit my wants/needs regardless of resale "vintage worth" which was not talked about then. If I bought it in today's world I certainly wouldn't alter it but I've never regretted doing so because it follows me to the end of the coil.I usually read it as Mother's Finest — one of the best bands to come out of Atlanta that should have been huge. If that’s not what I see, then yeah, mama freaker.
The 60s bird does nearly everything I want but … for just low end (early Motown, ABB, Skynyrd? The modern pickups rule. A bit of irony there.
