Thunderbird Club

You did mention you had to take it home for a week to do the setup, right?
Observation. A VP in that same case would have the HS barely fitting
Somebody put a lot of love into that bolt-on.
Jeff cleaned and set it up, played it and it sounded pretty damn good

Just did the test fit and sound check for my EB/GB build! Recall I wanted to capture the sound of an old vintage 1960 EB bass but in a Thunderbird body where I could solo a true Mudbucker or pair it with some kick ass capped Goth pickups (yeah, I like three pickup layouts). I previously did something similar in an active format with a DiMarzio one and a Silver Goth bass, it came out great (super versatile) but still not the authentic subsonic EBO sound I was after. So a few weeks ago I managed to score a surplus 1960 Gibson EB0 Mudbucker pickup, found a suitable Goth and went to town modding.

The end result, a stupendous foundation shaking bottom end to a crisp articulate top end and everything in between…

And as a tip of the hat (or a flip of the switch) to my favorite EB bass player and the sweet sounding capped Goth pickups…

Since I was modding, I took the liberty to reduce the size of and flip the headstock, install my favorite GOTOH tuners (tilted for an easy reach and sleek look) and hit the parts bin for a gold Babicz bridge. A gold Pickguard is on order as are gold knobs and strap locks. Shown next to my Silver Goth for comparison…

A few loose ends still need to be addressed - Mudbucker pot was defective and the shaft sheared off (so I’ll need to replace that), I’ll be adding a kill switch where the output jack is and moving the jack to a side mount. Until then it’s getting played hard to see if it’s as versatile as my Silver Goth.

yeah never got the origin or the appeal....in Spanish Antigua means old (feminine) but it's also the name of a Caribbean island..... my point: never seen anything old of coming from the Caribbean that looks like that.....
I seriously doubt this is any help on the subject, but it's the first thing I think of when I see the word 'antigua'. (from '56-remember, I'm 80 y/o)
Definitely no Thunderbirds :smug:

Is that the jack near the top knobs?

Very nice. Interesting concept.

I love that track -

I do remember it being a hit.
It's my parents', especially my dad's music. We had a small record player cabinet with LP storage below and most were brittle big-band 33 1/3 records. Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Tommy Dorsey BB.., the usual suspects. It's in my DNA but I know less about it than early Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway and Spike Jones... but when I hear it, it grabs me from far back. Now with more open ears/appreciation - I totally dig it!

Yes, it’ll be replaced with a push button kill switch. The jack will be moved to the side of the bass, not face mounted.
I like/use an on/off "kill switch" but really wouldn't have any use for a push button kill switch. Seems like more a guitar thing... (ala Buckethead)
