Our eight or so year old washer crapped out the other day. The primarily plastic transmission failed. $300 part. $150 minimum labor. Yeah. We bought a new one.

They look very polite. Unlike the “visitors” we get. But I will say that the mice have almost disappeared now that we get daily visits by a coyote.

Kind of like modern cars. Is it because they are thought to be disposable now and people buy something new? Bad design or parts?

all about cheap D...back in the day an engineer bought a MOSFET to put a design into production and NEVER had to give the lifetime of that device a thought....today, with disposable vapes and stuff like that, which all use switching devices such as MOSFETS, new methods (thinner gate oxide for example) to reduce component costs have emerged changing the philosophy of many things including warranties.....make sense?..

The appliances my ex and I bought in the early '90s (Washer, Dryer, Fridge) and those that came with the house are still in good working order, plus I have Frank who loves to work on things when they break.............
Same for the cars, I really am the wife

Yes, thanks. I guess little chance much of the stuff being made today will be around in 50 years. I'm ignorant about that kind of thing but find it interesting. I need to find a YT vid on how amps have changed other the years. That would be fascinating.

I notice it when I'm at home, but don't recall hearing it at rehearsal or live. As Irv pointed out, some isolated playing can sound pretty nasty. But it all disappears in the mix. I've heard a few and my first thought was, "Dude, adjust your string height if you're going to play that hard." But they have albums and I don't, so it works for them.

Depends on the music of course, but sometimes the fret clank and noise is what gives the bass its definition within a mix.

Hang onto them. Our drier is probably 30 years old. It’s an old Kenmore. I’ve replaced the main dial twice. The temp sensor once. Simple inexpensive parts that even I can figure out how to replace. I doubt a new one would last as long or be as easy to fix.

Much more so than most folks realize, certainly for some music a clean, well defined approach to playing a song is the right thing. I play in a loud rock band and love the fret clank and finger noise, playing live takes you places that you might not normally visit.

Toward the end of my brother’s career at Volvo, they were on a kick to build 100% recyclable (i.e. decentagrating) cars.
