This was a staple of Aussie radio right through the 70s. A hit here, and a minor hit in the UK but it didn’t land well in the US - only got to 73 or so - until an American, Mac Davis, covered it.
Evidently it was written in 1973 and by 1975 there were 27 covers of it. Good going I think, not Yesterday good in number of covers but what is?
Recorded in Sydney, and the lead guitar is supplied by the late Rory O’Donaghue most recognised as Thin Arthur from the Aunty Jack TV comedy series. He also did lots of stage work and commercials etc.

It might hit a memory maybe. It is imbedded in my generations memory here.

New to me, but I tended to ignore Mac Davis.

RUSH update from the road. Scully was kind enough to send me a picture of the Cardinal Red Thunderbird IV on his bench, I'm posting it here first a little exclusive for my fellow Tbirders. I have a few more but Scully has asked me to wait to post them. Hopefully more to come .

I guess it wasn't on the radio here.

To my ears, the ‘15 pickups in full humbucker mode are very close the to the vintage reissues. At their core, I believe they are pretty much the same pickups. I have Thunderbirds with both. Although the 15’s are wound hotter. EQing on the amp can make them sound pretty much the same played through a Mesa M6 Carbine, a Mesa TT800, and an SVT reissue.
As far as construction: The Decolas have cylindrical magnets. Most other Tbird pickups have blades.
