Hey you guys, need some keen discernment here. I'm looking at a used Epi 64 and there's some finish cracking at the back of the neck near the headstock. Any thoughts on this?

The guy says it's been no issue, I'm inclined to believe him, but I'm just throwing this here for a casual look... He wants cheep money for it.
It's likely cracked under there. If it's cheap enough, I would strip the neck, repair as needed, and do a tung oil finish.

The board will likely hire a friend who was CEO of Dunkin' Donuts.... Hey there's always the so called business genius (still) at Cracker Barrel who about crashed the company and cost them millions. (Did get a lot of free PR by accident.) Maybe instruments are more her thing than grits.
Chief Commercial Officer Anne Rohosy is interim president / CEO. New name (and position (CCO)) to me.
Cesar is still on the board.

Anyone else see the Gibson CEO stepped down? Maybe they can get someone that gives a damn about bass in the position next time?
I wouldn't count on it. Gibson traditionally has been a maker of guitars with the detachable headstock feature that plays at building the occasional bass.

I see you there, I'm inclined to see how the wood is under the finish. For the price, if there's actually no wood damage, I'll probably do it. I'm pretty adaptable to things like finishes and compromise, and I know a guy who might be able to make it invisible to the touch. If not there's always wet sandpaper and steel wool.
I appreciate the no-compromise angle though concerning what you're going to spend a lot of quality time with. It does occur to me that maybe it's time to get a new standard... Raise my game up a notch, level up, expect more, walk a cleaner path...

NAH!! I'll be back! 😁
As our good friend Mike would say, toowichyzone (or something like that). Poly is pretty thick and durable, for it to crack radially and lift it had to take a pretty good hit or a lot of stress. But for a $200 outlay you could always part it out and just about break even, so go for it if you’re so inclined.

As for repairs, if it were black it’d be an easy sand/glue/touch up paint job, but white is impossible to match. You could do the sand and glue part as needed, then touch up the neck as close as you can with a bunch of coats white paint in a similar shade and maybe hit the entire neck with scotch bright to bring it to a flat or satin white. A lot of people actually prefer a satin or flat poly neck over gloss because it slides in your hand much better.

Thanks!
Trying to play anything on it was a horror. I could adapt but have no need or desire.
was thinking it'd be something way more out there.....

Last bit on this, here's the bridge. Turns out someone put the wrong size threaded bridge retaining bolts into the threaded inserts, and they are apparently cross-threaded. This is as far down as they can go, the action is, I'm told, high.

I don't think I have time for this. I've got enough to do, really, with that refinish to the old Heckinecker I've got going.

Cool live performance- "China Grove''s cool bass line more prominent here- btw, what model bass is that? Never saw one with the open channels in the headstock before-

always a cloud pleaser that one......curiously, Tiran hasn't played fretted in decades....sounds like the mute's still on that EB (or flats)...

Good move. That bridge body is buggard up, the bolts are toast as are the inserts. The only real value in the bass is the pickups and those can be purchased brand new on eBay for under $100.

That’s just bizarre.

Got copper?
LOL - I just got a fine from my trash removal service provider. They supply three cans - yard waste, garbage, and recyclables.

I thought I was doing the right thing (both safety and environmentally) when I went through my outdoor extension cord supply and disposed of several unsafe 100 foot extension cords that had nicks and rot on the insulation. They were all copper heavy duty construction grade cords, maybe 500 feet in total. Put them in the recycle container. I promptly got an $80 fine the next week for improper materials in the recycle container.

So instead of getting paid to recycle 10+ pounds of copper, I paid 80 bucks to get rid of it, go figure.

He explains why in this video at around 13:25- had something to do with Michael McDonald's piano or Rhodes being a little different than his standard fretted bass tunings- so he went fretless so he wouldn't have to do micro adjustments to accommodate the keyboards-

Local dude, used to jam at the long gone "Chateau Liberte" biker hang with the Doobies....see him playing out often with local acts....always a different bass....
