Thunderbird Club

@Larry V Genesee County is around Detroit area is it not? Do you have any music stores around you that keep a broad variety of basses on the walls (focussing on Gibsons obviously)? I only have 4 music stores around me, and they're all chock full o' the same lackluster inventory of low level Schecter, Ibanez, Squire, blah blah blah... with a couple $1,000< FSOs hangin' on the wall:meh:

yeah... that's the part that had me amped. Until that come along, I'd only seen 2014s in black, white, & burst.

My 2014 Cherry w/chrome

Must be they either didn't make many of 'em and/or people gobbled 'em up. I've spent a ridiculous amount of time browsing the www since I was shown the magic of the 'bird, and this is the first one I've seen in cherry. Maaaaan... I'm bummed. I thought I'd really found somethin' there:sour:

Here is my 2014 w/ chrome hardware and Lollar pick ups. Got it at guitar center, stock for $
Rare as hen's teeth... they don't come up too often.

I don't remember if anyone in here has one.

@Nocturnal? @hillerup? @GBassNorth?

I do.

Can't speak to what's available down there. I rarely go south of the Genesee County Line and when I do it's for concerts or fancy dinners. I'd say just shop the GC used stuff and have it shipped to your local GC. I've gotten a few basses that way.

If it's the same one I saw the other day he claimed that he "had Gibson" put a black pg on it from the factory or something along those lines. Not worth the extra price imho.

Care to share a pic?

Or, or... by one for regular price($100) and get the next one for $30! I'd have gone for the discounted second bottle as it would be the best deal. ;)
It's why I'm working on getting my second million dollars. The first million is turning out to be impossible. They always say the second is easier, so that's where to start.

That's what I've been doing thus far. They've just gotta hate me over there. I bought my first bass at GC. It was an Ibanez TMB-100 that I bought off the wall. Then, in my search for a better bass without spending more money, I found a KSD Burner online, so I returned the Ibanez & ordered that in. I repeated that cycle 4 more times before finding this Goth. If you subtract the amount I spent on shipping these various basses...I never spent over $300.00 total! I'm amazed that they don't run the other direction when they see me walk in the joint!

Keeping in mind that I'm only a few months into my journey as a bass player... I'd really like to find a place where I can walk in & see a good variety of basses. I wanna get my hands on 'em & see what's what. I wanna feel the necks, compare pickups, & all that stuff, just to get a sense of what the various manufacturers and models are bringing to the table.

HOT DIGGETTY!!! That's a nice collection ya got there!drool

Except for the Gibson they're all Epis. Stock and no chroming planned so nothing on most guy's collections here.

Can someone post a shot of their AW bird? My paranoia is telling me that it's getting creamier by the day. Looked up an old low-fi shot and it seemed like the pg and the finish are nearly matching.
Don't think poly yellows, but as said: Paranoia.

Hate to say it Fix, but @Larry V is right, gone are the days with gobs and gobs of good stuff in the stores.
It aint the '70's on 48th Street anymore.

edit; of course unless you have deep pockets with wads of cash, then you're typical overpriced vintage shop will be happy to sell.

The bottom line is that the low end sells much more quickly, and in much greater numbers, than the top and does. That's true in every segment of every market. It's also why the typical guitar shop only had a few basses and they're made by Ibby, Skwar, and maybe MIM Bumper Yazz Basses. That stuff moves. It's a rare shop that can afford to stock lots of the top end; it ties up cash flow and doesn't turn very fast...especially in a soft economy.
