I don't think, nor can i find any solid info on the 2018's.
Bet they are going to cost much as well.

Its probably best that way right now JJ, I am not gassing for anything at the moment and ...oh sh!t, wait, there it is...now I need a 2018 even though it doesn't exist yet and may never or if it does will be priced so damn high that I have to mortgage the other kidney and get my wife dancing on tables again so I can get one....

I'm not sure what i'm going to do if Gibson actually does do some 2018's.
I hope they don't, i know, that was a bad thing to say.

The reason I was asking is that I had a lead on a sweet newer model Gibson NR and I was kinda thinking it would be cool to drop the 2013/14 EB pups (which I assume are the same as the 2015 bird pups) and the EB controls into a Gibson NR Bird.

The plan was to buy a cheap used EB and the NR then flip the electronics over to the bird and part out the EB. I could have done it cheaper than just buying a 2015 Bird and would have had a very cool and unique bass to boot but I would have only done it if I could flip the Bird back to original condition if I ever wanted to sell it. Routing the NR would eliminate that option.

Guess I'll just have to set my sights on a pristine 2015 Bird instead.

They look like MusicMan pickups and are about that size and shape. They are not as big as an original mudbucker. That's abut the only way I can describe them. You are correct that they are the same as 2013/2014 EB pickups. Thing is that if you did find a cheap used EB, you may find that it's just different enough that you wouldn't want to take it apart. Those are excellent bass guitars. They are a little bit FSO-ish, but certainly not a direct copy of anything. Mine is about the lightest bass guitar I own. It doesn't get played that much because I prefer 'Bird ergos by a wide margin. But, it's a keeper.

I hear you. I have a MIM Fender Jazz that's been sitting in the closet for years that I've been meaning to sell off. And that POS V on the wall would definitely go if a left-handed 2018 appeared. That V has a neck as thick as a baseball bat, the fret edges would slice open your hand, and the electronics are so noisy that they practically hum when it's not even plugged in. It was super cheap, but it was a left-handed Flying V. Had to do it.

I LOVE your idea! An NR with those pickups would be a whole new kinda cool:cool::thumbsup:

If your worst case scenario means you end up with a 2015 Thunderbird... I'd say you're in pretty good shape! I'm attracted to that 2015 'bird in an unholy and unnatural way. It saddens me that they're only made with a crazy thin neck, thereby eliminating the presence of one from my future:bawl:

Man, I used to LOVE V basses, back in the day (had to be mid 80s) I had a Vantage 575B which was a Gibson knock-off and a Guild Burnside "The Lance" which was a take on the Randy Rhoads offset V...sold both long ago...it was a phase ;-)
