Oh dear... I cannot support this post.
:D

Do you reckon I could sneak this one in? My first bass started as a nice, plain black and white Hohner Marlin Precision clone, but after 15 years it had undergone some....transformations...

In the end it was a cannibalised 5-string with chunks gouged out of it through less-than-careful handling. However, it still played pretty nicely. At that point I passed it on to a friend on permanent loan as I was starting to amass more basses than was good for my marriage...

That's as bad as the weather here.
A perfectly good Gibson, ruined.

Ok. Where's a mod when you need one...

I think the mods are afraid to come in here.

In the world of guitars, there are unwritten rules. Things ya do & things ya don't do. For instance... painting a beautiful flame topped Les Paul. Ya just don't... and for more than just monetary reasons. You, being actively involved with Epiphone Thunderbirds on a regular basis, are obviously passionate and extremely knowledgable about them. I was particularly interested in your opinion on the matter. I'm flirtin' with the idea of doin' somethin' irreversible to the one I just got. I guess I'm lookin' to see if anybody's got a good enough reason for me not to.

On a bolt on Epi in sunburst or Goth, I would not hesitate to modify. They are plentiful and not likely to be collectible. The custom color and limited runs I would probably leave alone. If you have ideas to make your bass more "yours" have at it! It might make you want to play it even more.

DAMMIT Son!!! How 'bout a warning before postin' pix like that! Now I need to change my pants again:wideyed:

That Seafoam NR is just rIdOnKuLoUs!!!

The Gunmetal Goth is just SOOOOO SSSSIIIIIIIIIICCCKKK!!!

Hard to pick favorites between the black & the white. I guess I have to give the edge to the black one cuzza the bridge & pickup... but WOW!!!:wideyed::cool::cool::cool:

Are those all goin' on the block?

Thanks. The black s the only one for sale now. If the others are going up I will alert this group first since there is such a solid appreciation for Birds.

Go mod the hell out of it! :)

It's not like Epi's are vintage collectable instruments anyway, so by all means personalize it and make it yours! :)

My sentiments exactly! :)

Please do! :)

That made me think about whether or not anyone here owns an early Epi TBird... say a first or second year? Wouldn't that be in fact collectible? I've tried a quick internet search and see nothing about production years for Epi TBirds.

Can anyone shed any light on when Epiphone started making their TBirds?

SOLD!!! In less than 24 hours!!!

I meant to mention......
I took the Burny Thunderbird up to "The Bass Shop" in West Seatlle a couple weeks back, Jeff and Chad are really great guys and I enjoyed the visit a great deal. Jeff is really jonesing for a '70s Bird, I had a nice chat with him, shared a few pics etc. The crazy thing was that he had that Burny "Bird sold within 20 minutes of my leaving the shop, I hadn't even made it home!

I will digress back into the Thunderbird world.
I'm sure there are the lot of you that know this bass.
And probably have already have seen this.
Am i correct in my understanding this was a Tom Peterson Bass?
Did Hamer build this specifically for him?

Thank you!

That was made for Tom, he played it with Concrete Blonde.
It's owned by Mr Baz Cooper now.
