Thunderbird Club

People are free to do whatever they want to their Thunderbird, it's theirs - Why would I care?
In the world of guitars, there are unwritten rules. Things ya do & things ya don't do. For instance... painting a beautiful flame topped Les Paul. Ya just don't... and for more than just monetary reasons. You, being actively involved with Epiphone Thunderbirds on a regular basis, are obviously passionate and extremely knowledgable about them. I was particularly interested in your opinion on the matter. I'm flirtin' with the idea of doin' somethin' irreversible to the one I just got. I guess I'm lookin' to see if anybody's got a good enough reason for me not to.

Precision Shaped Objects that are not 7ender's?

Now I want to get a Lakland or something just to make that club.
Do you reckon I could sneak this one in? My first bass started as a nice, plain black and white Hohner Marlin Precision clone, but after 15 years it had undergone some....transformations...

In the end it was a cannibalised 5-string with chunks gouged out of it through less-than-careful handling. However, it still played pretty nicely. At that point I passed it on to a friend on permanent loan as I was starting to amass more basses than was good for my marriage...

Yeah, it's been a busy few months moving states, but I've been following along here and a few other places, lurking, waiting to hear more about the new Epi's. Can't say I was blown away by the official video, but here's hoping for better demos as they start to propagate out.
Funny, I thought the sound from that demo was beautiful, though it really sounded like he was running it through an overdrive pedal, which is what I do.

Like 150 shades of gray!
Rarely humid here, and I do love that. A 70 degree day in October is the most beautiful thing
And, when you get a clear day in winter, there's that low, raking sun that doesn't have anything to compare. Sure, a clear day in winter is unusual, but when it happens, it's one of those little arrivals that make the world perfect for a brief moment.

Michael was very supportive of the refinishing of the gun metal grey Goth and the white NR.

DAMMIT Son!!! How 'bout a warning before postin' pix like that! Now I need to change my pants again:wideyed:

That Seafoam NR is just rIdOnKuLoUs!!!

The Gunmetal Goth is just SOOOOO SSSSIIIIIIIIIICCCKKK!!!

Hard to pick favorites between the black & the white. I guess I have to give the edge to the black one cuzza the bridge & pickup... but WOW!!!:wideyed::cool::cool::cool:

Are those all goin' on the block?

Yeah, that pretty much happens every year now, doesn't it. I think it was last year I woke up on the 5th of July and everything was this sickly shade of yellow, the sky was vomit brown, and you couldn't see the sun. I thought I was way more hung over than I realized, until I found out it was due to all the fires burning in BC, and it was sitting in the Puget Sound due to an inversion layer.

Boy, I do miss that weather. Like 6 o'clock onwards in the Puget Sound is incredible. When it's like 9 and there's still daylight. It's been in the mid-80s here in LA the last few weeks, although the other weekend it was pushing 100 in the Silverlake area for 3 days straight, wasn't even getting down to 80 at night. I've started going for runs again in the area, and even after a mile I'm just drenched.
My son lives in LA these days, and I'm not convinced he loves LA very much. It's where he lives, and there's opportunity for him to play professionally there that doesn't exist in Seattle. But, all things being equal, I suspect he would move back. I would be happy if he did, but it would be a little bittersweet, since it would mean he's moved on from his music career and become a day job type like his dad.

Hey this is almost a Tort warning but no visual so you can come out from behind the thing your hiding behind. Check this out, not sure how much attention it will draw but the responses could get interesting.........or not.The official "Tort Pic's Or It Doesnt Exist " Thread.
You can't post a link like that and expect me not to be a cranky troll. You knew that, right? You did? Ah, well, I can't let you down then.

I have taken a drill to a Gibson to put covers on it, alter the tuning machines, etc. Making holes is pretty much irreversible. I was thinking about cutting an f-hole in one, like an Ampeg bass, but probably won't.

Drunner auditioned tonight. Guy knew all 22 Crue songs we know and he shredded them. He was great at getting us to follow his lead and really took charge. Guy wanted the gig after one song and we gave it to him at end of night. Maybe our string of bad luck has turned. Felt we sounded better with one night with him than four months with the old guy.
Congratulations! Nice to find a real "gung ho" kinda guy! Breaths some fresh life into things & kicks the energy up a notch:thumbsup:

Sometimes a good drummer is all it takes - I know it inspires me.
