I suspect the club was formed before Fender released the dual Humbucker equipped Blacktop bass and since the club had already stretched the rules to include the original single coil they kinda had to (begrudgingly) allow the Humbucker as well (although they didn't bother to rewrite the rules, which kinda implies you're an exception and they really don't want to encourage any more of you 'buckers).

If you really want to watch that club tie itself in knots just wait until Fender releases a piezo equipped precision - LOL! Hey, it's Fender, they can do whatever they want to their P bass, as history shows.

Edit: as luck would have it, apparently Fender DID make a Piezo equipped P bass in the 1989-90 time frame that also had a hollow body and split coil pup. I'd love to see this try to worm its way into the club...

Somebody, just for the fun of it, should start a P bass club for any bass that has an original Fender/Squier sticker on the headstock that says Precision bass. It would be a hoot to see all the different basses out there that would qualify as an official P bass based upon the only true criteria for determining a P bass - the stinkin sticker!

When you really get to thinking about it, the P bass is more of a mongrel not a pure blood like the TBird. And that's ok, mongrels can be the best of companions but at the end of the day they're still a mutt (with or without the tort).

All this talk about the Fender club rules had me go W A Y back to check the rules of The Official Fender Precision Club:

This is The Official Fender Precision Bass Club,.
I have searched and discovered there isn't one, so here is it

The Rules,
1. I shall assign numbers.
2. It must be a genuine Fender Bass ( no parts Bass and no Frankenbass ).
3. It must sport a genuine Fender Logo on the head stock ( sorry no Squier's ).
4. It must have a split singlecoil pickup or vintage p-bass singlecoil.
5. Can have more than one pickup, but must have a split singlecoil or vintage p-bass singlecoil ( Standard, American Standard, American Deluxe, Highway One, American Vintage etc... ).
6. They can be MIA, MIM, MIJ etc... as long as it was produced under license for Fender.
7. Vintage and Modern are welcome.
8. Pictures are encouraged.
9. Please no rude comments on the basses of others.
10. No PMs please. it's only to make it fair when assigning numbers.
11. Have fun.

The guide lines.
- I saw a lot of Clubs on the Forum such as " The Precision Decision ", " The Official Fender MIJ/CIJ ", " The Squier ", etc... but I did not see "The Official Fender Precision Bass Club", so I thought it would be a good idea to put one together.
- The Club is meant to be a tribute to Leo Fender's Precision Bass, and the Basses presented stay with in the rules, the guide lines / spirit of the club, meaning the Basses being genuine Fender's, sporting a genuine Fender Logo on the head stock.
- I just don't know when a Fender stops being a genuine Fender and becomes a parts Bass, I'm thinking upgrades with Fenders parts such as the pick guard, the bridge, things like Fender's Custom shop stuff, not to mention other parts produced under license for Fender or used by Fender such as the Badass Bridge.
- I don't want to be a fanatic, nor do I want to split hairs and police this Thread with "Is the Bass you present a Genuine Fender Bass?", and "what upgrade is valid and witch one is not?".
That being said.
- I will leave it up to each individual to determine if the Bass they are presenting, falls under the rules and guide lines of this Thread of being a genuine Fender Bass.

This is meant to be a fun Thread, it's intended to be The Official Fender Precision Bass Club and for " genuine Fender Basses ", I hope that every one who will be participating, will keep it in the scope of things.

The rules are rather strict in regards to the appearances of a P-bass, and it's a wonder they even accepted the Blacktop P, since it doesn't comply with rule #4 & #5...

Fortunately our club accept and embraces a lot more variety among our bird slinging brethren...

The Epi Vintage Sunburst differ a lot from model to model: My Korean one looks pretty much like the one you posted and the one on the Epi website - a very subtle reddish burst with dark edges and a reddish neck.

My Chinese one, on the other hand has a very dark burst with black edges and an almost opaque black neck and headstock.

Yes that top one is that little bit nicer imo.

Back to neck-through Birds. I like being able to see the wood 'stripes'.

With Heritage Cherry would the neck ply's be visible?
Has there been any with painted wings but natural or stained neck ?

If I were an evil trouble maker, I would counsel the formation of a Precision Bass club that would allow any to join as long as their bass was not a 7ender or Squier. But I am not an evil trouble maker, so I am not recommending that anyone do that. But nor am I recommending against either. So really, I am a force for indifference.

Anyone use a Mono Case M80 for their Gibson thunderbird? I have a 2014 Gibson thunderbird that I've been putting in my M80 case. Its a bit of a tight fit, but seems pretty protective for a gig bag... Of course the hardshell case offers the most protection, but I really dig the portability and lightweight of the M80. I'm wondering if anyone has used a M80 for the thunderbird long term with good luck. I figured this would be the place to ask. Thanks!!

I tried an M80 a long time ago but felt it was too tight. I've been using a Gator ProGo bag for years and it's been excellent, both in terms of protection and pocket space. MONO's Vertigo I think fits the Thunderbird better than the M80, but its pocket space is terrible.

A proper midlife crisis involves several maxed out credit cards, a couple airplanes and international flights, a bimbo/bimbette from central casting so that no innocent bystanders are harmed, a rented Cadillac convertible, a tire pump, small bore firearms, a police chase, air to ground missiles, several blown police blocades, an international incident, and really loud rockabilly on a scratchy AM radio.

Never mind your students or a Challenger. If you are going to do it, go big and do it right. Then, when they pull the smoking remains from the massive crater at the end, you will become a legend, not just one more kinda pathetic old guy.

I would do this, except my wife doesn't think it sounds like a good idea. Dammit. I hate it when reason pops the bubble.

After being allowed to act as my natural self and as a member of the Thunderbird club I think it would be hard to be myself in a club like The Official Fender Precision Bass Club By all means it looks to be a decent club but....."The Rules".

I'm back! After being away for a very longtime (i don't think i'll ever catch up from the point i've left off in this club ) My builds are picking up some speed, to get a lot done in the next few months (by december 31st, at least 6-7 projects will be completed).

I hope you guys are doing good, I know i'm getting my strength back to full gear!! Expect some pictures soon. I missed you all!
