Thunderbird Club

WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!, Non Thunderbird content, and, Absolute shameless plug.
don't blame me for the end of the video.

Hey cool! What took you so long to post this!

Outside of Portland?

Highlights one of the reasons I love Thunderbirds, the D and G string jump out!
Exactly! I wasn't sure if it was just the few I've played but there's a distinct dual personality between the A/E strings and the G/D strings. Once you learn how to manage the beast it can be one of the most rewarding and expressive basses to play.

Ok since we are in non-bird content, me at CBGB playing "Norwegian Wood" 1986 with my 4001....still not sure why the hell we covered Norwegian Wood of all songs....

Love it! That Ric really took a beating. Probably the best cover I've ever seen of that song, very original and tons of attitude and energy. Would love to hear it with the Bird on deck.

i'm not that impressed after watching this video.
Oh man... I fell in llluuuuuuvvv with the '63 bridge pupdrool. I loved the blended sound of the Thunderbuckers too... but I'm surprised to hear myself say that I thought the stock neck pup by itself sounded better than the '63 neck pup by itself. Maybe it was just computer speaker voodoo, but the '63 neck pup sounded comparatively "thin". Might just hafta do the '63 in the bridge, and the '66 in the neck;)

So a little update on my Epiphone.
After using it exclusively since I got it I can see why you guys swear by them. It took a little to get used to the body but once I did it was oh so worth it. It offers a different type of growl than I am used to with my Warwicks. I did do some mods to it, but they weren't really too necessary. First I grinded off the bridge insert lips so I can lower the bridge to the deck. A set of countersunk Dunlop strap locks were installed and I just got done adding in a no-load blend pot. I'm not the biggest fan of the VVT setup so adding the blend was for my own sanity. Though I did notice a little hotter output after I put in the no-load pot too. At the moment I am considering a push/pull series/parallel tone pot, but only if I ever work up the ambition to do so :)Link Removed
It's definitely different than the rest of my basses but it is a welcome addition to my little herd. I'm so impressed by this one that I'm considering getting a Vintage Pro sometime down the line too. I actually prefer this to a '08 Gibson Studio my local shop has. Epiphone really stepped their game up from the bolt on models.
Daaaaaaannnnnnggg!!! Them'r some fancy fiddles friend:thumbsup:

Thunderbird Thursday..........................

Notice how yellow/orange the sunlight is, still very smoky and the worst air quality of the entire U.S. here today. Not supposed to get better until Saturday.

After traveling cross country in my car from oregon to Florida, then sitting in a room for a month and a half untouched I plugged in my Epi T-bird today and it was not only in tune, but needed zero adjustments on the old truss rod. I've seriously owned so many basses and this T-bird is the one that feels like home. I've owned basses 7 times the price of this thing and it just sings. I can't wait to try to come up with a reason I can give the wife to buy the new Thunderbird pro bass. That's a work in progress...

Forty Years ago, a Thursday night gig in July at the Whisky a Go Go. Recorded on a Teac 450 cassette recorder with a mic in front of the sound booth. Steve "ThunderBucker" Soar on Telecaster. Me playing my '77 Thunderbird, fingers, through two Sunn Coliseums and two SVT 8-10s. I played all the other songs with a stainless pick but this heavily Free influenced tune needed a lighter touch. Picture, from an earlier gig, was taken by Bibi Hansen, Beck's mom.

Petty was at this show, I had to switch back to the P after this song because the front strap peg pulled out of the 'Bird. He remarked how much better the TBird sounded than the P.

Mars Cowling was also at the show, Pat Travers' bass player, although I didn't know it that night. They were headlining the weekend. He was surprised when I was setting up their sound check, my day gig was sound man/stage manager there. Nice guy and a great player. He gave me two sets of Rotosound 66s!

DOOOOOOOOOOD!!! That was AWESOME!!!:cool::thumbsup:

You
have some Andy Fraser in ya!:thumbsup:
