I think you need to make him indoors feel guilty about something and buy you a Darkglass AO to make up for said thing.

I am really curious to try one. One thing the AΩ seems to be missing is an output level switch to allow it drive a power amp, although that would be the least important requirement. And guilt-tripping him indoors is fruitless.

I have the VT 500 head and have it set to simulate a flip top and don't hear this at all. Remind me what you're listening through?

Still the iPhone earbuds while awaiting the delivery of new enclosed Sennheisers. Yeah I know.

And yeah, I should have said 'at the moment'. It's still work in progress. Drive and Character are around 10.30, Bite and SpkrSim are both off. Maybe the Bite needs to be engaged, but I've been trying to avoid that scooped clanky generic SVT tone, wanting to get it to sound more like my amp/cab.

It does say 'VT' on the label, not 'big and dirty Bassman' -- maybe that's a clue.

Kat - I've seen a few of your VT frustration posts and kinda just passed them over figuring you'd eventually find your magic setting. I have one of the original pedals from when they first came out and recall how much fiddling I had to do with it to get a good SVT sound. Haven't used the pedal in years but I do remember there being a huge interaction between several of the knobs and it not being as intuitive as I thought it would be. In case you haven't already seen it, here's a thread that lists others settings to get that sound you're after, hope it helps you...

I do recall one other goofy thing about the pedal - I used the wall wart that came with it but was kinda having similar farty results every now and then and it turned out that even though I was powering it with a wall outlet, the 9 volt battery inside it was weak (about 8.5 volts) and for some reason the way it's designed it uses the battery regardless of whether or not you have the pedal plugged into the wall. So, if yours has a battery try replacing it to see if it makes a difference, it made a huge difference on mine.

Just had a little post-porridge, pre-tea fiddle with the VT Bass DI (it's the quiet end of the day).

Maybe it doesn't like TBirds, but there's no level of discernible Drive on the thing that sounds like an overdriven valve amp. If it were a wine, it would have distinct flavours of chainsaw with hints of farty. It probably sounds great with a Jazz ... and therein lies my lesson.

I like the Fliptop setting with my Birds.

Easily the worst show I saw there was Alice in Chains. Biggest bunch of smacked-up prima-donnas who could't play, I have ever run across. They might as well have been asleep.

They were probably taking a page from Led Zep's book, my god, they were awful when I saw them. The upside was that I got to take the girl next door (whom I had the Major Hots for), tickets were only $5.00 apiece, and we got high at the show.

Alice In Chains is pretty good live now, the new singer nails Layne's parts (with slightly less angst) and they're a really tight band... sobriety will do that for you. (Or so I heard, hiccup)

It does seem to sound better with the Bite and SpkrSim engaged. It does a fair approximation of an SVT, which after all, is what it was designed to do.

Beauties all! Your brown-burst '64 II almost looks like a cherry-burst. Is it just the pic or is there red and is the dark brown halo less dark tobacco than average? Cool nonetheless. I have a '75 B-15N and just had a new V pot (channel 1) and power (JJ) tubes installed - it sounds better than ever!

edit: after seeing my pic, I went on-line and found "Mojotone" and through them ordered a yard of era specific blue/silver grill-cloth for my B-15N - mine was this way (stained) when I bought it (8 years ago?) and I've thought about replacing it since - otherwise it's in VGC.

Seriously, the battery thing baffled me for the longest time. I didn't put the battery in, it came with one installed and I had only ever used the wall wart with it so I was completely dumbfounded when it started acting up and finally just stopped working. I opened it up, realized it had a stupid battery in it so I replaced it and then everything was fine. You'd think it would be a smart enough design to detect when AC power is being used and therefore bypass the battery, but no such luck.

This how I can always tell potential bandmates on Craigslist are really young: they list Alice in Chains as a sound they're going for. Never fails.

44 years later and I still haven't seen a sloppier show including a couple of doosies by my own band .
