Here's a version I've never seen before:
Japan Rare Greco Offset Bass single PU 1987 Black

Great looking bass, and they sound so good too!

The Japanese out-did Fender and Gibson in the 80's - that one is super-badd!

I'd be interested to see what a difference the bolt-on makes in comparison to the more commonly seen set-neck version.

I was just going to say... "for a bolt-on" (or set-neck, or string thru) ... but we would be splitting hairs here. And yes, there is a difference (how could there not be a difference?), but "hype" makes it more that it actually is. (as usual) Too many factors to do broad brushing. Bottom line ; pu's/electronics are the 1st contributor to tone/character.

Not sure how many people know that Bowie wrote it for Mott the Hoople.

Yes, knew this - MTH gained success with it but it was unlike their base image and it left their fans confused. (Bowie was an expert at confusing his base!) MTH were a very successful working-class supported band and the new flexibility sweeping the social world then was all about redefinition, which they flirted with. They adopted gam as a path to their developmental success.

It's really the sister to an Ibanez other than the pickup, they were made in the same factory (not at the same time to my knowledge) I used to have one (Ibanez 'Bird) but the Greco really is the far better bass. That pick up!

Yes, always give a 'custom' maker the benefit of doubt - 'custom' usually applies an openness to, customize! :bassist:
My rant is specifically regarding his lack of knowledge of his product. I mean... there are only 3 main Gibson style knobs... Top Hat, Bell, & Speed. It mystifies me how people in the business of selling guitars/guitar accessories wouldn't know that, and want to get it right in their sales schmaltz. The main reason it's a peeve of mine is because, now... because of schmucks like him... I have 7,000 postings to sift through instead of like, the 20 or whatever, that actually are Top Hats. Of course it's a common problem with a massive variety of products... but that one would be so easily avoided. All they'd have to do, is know what the product is that they are selling. I would think that would be rule #1 in the book... or maybe I'm just gettin' old...
