Thunderbird Club

For the dumbos (me) has anyone hit a link to s spot showing each of the 3 main Gibson style knobs... Top Hat, Bell, & Speed; identifying which is what ?

You're no "dumbo"! A dumbo wouldn't have asked!;)

The last update I had from Andertons here in the UK was 15 October. Fingers crossed!
Glad someone has found out when there're coming to the UK. Been looking but could only find words such as, 'Coming Soon' and 'Available for Pre-Order'. I shop at Anderton's all the time, so I'll probably get it from there too. Wanting an Embassy as of right now. Something a bit different for the collection, but also not too far away 'tonally' from the T-Bird. Probably gonna get the Ebony one, since I currently don't have a gigging bass in black.

Thanks for the knob tutorial. I think I may be like many (most?) other people; although I can see the difference between a bell and a top hat, I consider them interchangeable. In fact, I would go so far as to say, if the knob fits the post, it is a replacement option. My only criterion is the presence of 11 because it is one louder.

Big love for Mott The Hopple!

Since you brought it up...

Two weeks ago I saw a friend's band do a set at a VFW benefit, all four guys in the band are named Matthew so of COURSE the name they performed under was "Matt The Hoople". They played Mott The Hoople, Queen, Kiss, Sweet, T-Rex, and of course David Bowie. Glam persists, doesn't it?

They really cheezed it up on stage, what they lacked in refinement (this band had been together for a couple weeks, formed just for this event) they more than made up for in showmanship. I respect the singer's commitment to the performance by wearing a kimono and thigh-highs.

It was sooooo entertaining.

Somebody did a kick-butt job on the "MATT" signage, I have to say. Those are wee-little mirror tiles.

One of these years, I need to get the dots out of the fretless 'Bird's neck. It has walnut where the frets were, so that makes the lines mostly disappear. The dots are still there, though. It's a little odd looking, and there's always some slightly creepy guy who stares at it all night when I play a show with it.

The thing I don't like about the bell knob, is that it's stubbier than the top hat, and nearly all of the gripping surface is curved. For whatever reason... this makes my pinky slip over the surface. I don't have that issue with the speed knobs or top hats. The top hats look great, they're comfortable and familiar, & I don't have to think about 'em:thumbsup:

I disagree - chrome/nickel looks out of place on a white `bird (IMO). I like the look of black hardware on the white `bird. My white bird has all black hardware, black beauties, white strap with black tailpiece, and I am swapping out the tophats with chrome inserts for plain black tophats that go to 11.

The burst can go either way. The ebony looks great with chrome/nickel.

Actually I think a white bird would look absolutely amazing with gold hardware - Only problem is, it's virtually impossible to source a gold 3-point bridge, unless you either go Bbicz or Hipshot.... :(

Thank you to everyone that offered advice and opinions on the volume and tone for my Blackbird. I took it in yesterday and we talked at great length about all the options as I understood them. At this point he's going to do two 500k in parallel for the pickup and a 500k with a .022 cap for the tone and the knobs will be in the classic Thunderbird arrangement.

Nothing in this configuration is particularly special but it should get me exactly what I'm looking for and if/when I'm ready to try the parallel/series switching push pull tone knob all the holes will be where I need them.

Says he's going to re-satin the neck for me, never had that done before. I feel so fancy now...

Thank you once more for all the advice and information, I'll post here when I get it back.

Sounds pretty slick to me! :)

Sorry 'bout that...
