Well to give you & the good folks here in our Thunderbird family, a taste or what may come to be it'll be somewhat like this with a few twists.
I can't say that I disagree in regards to that fugly headstock. I asked the guy if he would take a couple pictures to the base of the neck where it joins the body, with a business card... I haven't bid on it. Thinking about it... We'll see.
You can see from the pic that there are 9 plies, and examine one in person if you have access to one.
Even the thread that was quoted says epi is 100% wrong in their description, even with the iv pro its listed as 7, but only 5 go thru the neck.
Idk, ymmv, but I'll believe my eyes before anything on their website.

For that now dreaded case of a thunderbird, i think i'd snatch it up just to return it to former glory. Maybe a few mods here and there but nothing as horrific as it's condition today.
I looked at it again and no...just no.
For what it would cost to buy It plus sandpaper and paint, a new neck, trc, and whatever else you could find a nice epi and be done.
Now if it was a butchered Gibson that would Be a different story.
Speaking of which theres a goth on there for $20 starting, a classic pro for 299, and a pro for 300
That's the beauty of having all that in hands already since i build and mod guitars/basses, plus the fact that i wouldn't swap the neck just mearly glue decent sized wood blanks on each side of the headstock and retrace the thunderbird shape and cut it out, trim it and paint it. Id also wouldn't worry about a TRC since i'd make my own, paint doesnt bother me, and i could just leave it natural wood and just do something wild and unseen on a thunderbird that would suit it better than the cherryburst excuse.
You guys think that neck has been replaced vs sanded? Having a hard time getting my head around that dang headstock.

Well apparently the auction has been eliminated due to the bass being "lost or broken". I know for sure if that were my bass it would be lost or broken also!
I'm not doubting what you have. That case is closed. I'm just wondering if it varies by year or if it's a mistake in spec?
I rock a pink paisley telecaster bass every now and then, so this doesn't seem too far out in left field for me. I'd just have to be careful what to wear with it, a plaid shirt and jeans won't do. I'm thinkin, satin black shirt with puffy sleeves, black leather pants and pink ostrich western boots. Yep, I'd totally do that!

As far as I know its always said 7 ply, which I still would have no problem with if it were true (still a great deal on an outstanding bass).
From what I can tell it's always been 9, which is pretty odd, considering thats a pretty big detail to leave out of the description.
Thanks, well contrary to the picture i've posted, it won't be polka dot pink
mine will be of a natural finish that i plan on doing a tiger stripe pattern with fire (just using a lighter and going around the body and neck of the bass to give it some burn marks). Then clear coating it in either semi gloss or full gloss lacquer to preserve the tiger stripes until it's properly road worn after many many years (if ever). The headstock will probably have some black in the inner part of the headstock. 21 frets on a rosewood board (no inlays), 34" scale length, precision/jazz humbucker configuration, standard hi-mass chrome bridge. Gotoh tuners chrome, Slab body so no center block (something different for me and i find it appealing like Nikki's spector birds) and will house a single killswitch. It's all or nothing when it comes to my thunderbirds growling!!

The BaCH Bird NR replicas are very interesting, as is the original NR.
It makes me wonder if an unbranded, unfinished NR replica kit or finished "chassis" might be of interest to folks here and elsewhere.
I like the NR for a project like this because of the "lawsuit" history, the fact that Fender is NOT pursuing all of the Jag/Jazz builds out there, and the availability of parts for the project guys to complete their builds.
It's not something I'd pursue for myself, but I'd be happy to help connect the dots with an OEM if there's interest.
For that matter, anyone else who is interested could jump in and manage the project.
Just a thought...
