I did the finish on the Goth. I actually plan on stripping it and painting it again. I used the wrong clear coat and it is having issues. This time I should be able to do a better job much faster and with the correct materials.

Page 2245, lots of ribbing of Jeff and "playful" condemnation for his use of flats. I don't think I need to read 8 pages more of this to know what's there so I'll just post now.

My favorite string is D'addario Chrome Flats. No apologies, they are just the perfect string for me. IMO, the angry piano is overrated and the clanking of bass strings against the fret board and frets and p/ups sounds awful to me.

This is no doubt due to the influence of my favorite bassist, JPJ from whom I've never heard an angry piano, just beautiful smooth tone.

I just heard from my vendor that we are looking at early November. That said, Epiphone is notorious for being optimistic about availability. Talk about a slow boat from China...
Of course, the other possibility is that they are sitting on them until they peel off more of the Classic IV Pro T-Birds. Having two "niche" models with such close price points seems redundant, so I would expect the C-IV Pro to go the way of the dodo once the supply is exhausted. But what do I know?

i was going to get the chrome clover's as well but I don't recall if I was able to get the bridge in chrome @ the time?

I think you are getting a great tone with those Chromes Larry, that vid you posted with your sons proved it for me.

FYI, JPJ was a Rotosound user. The bass tone was EQ'd that way for the records. It was the style at the time. Entwistle endured the same thing (Listen to Live at Leeds vs. Who' Next). Somewhere there was a link on TB to some live JPJ/Zep rehearsals and the tone was much brighter and cutting.

While everyone is just goofing on @JJR58 about the flats, I never use them because I can get a flat-like tone by adjusting EQ on the bass or amp if I need it. IME, you can't get a round wound sound from flats by using EQ.

There seems to be some disagreement in regards to JPJ using rounds/flats. I've read conflicting info and hard to tell what did he really use. And of course, i never dig deep enough to really find out.
And i would tend to agree about the rounds and eq vs, flats................ But, to me anyway, some flats will do it till they break in and lose some of their brightness.
And i'm all good on the ribbing. That's part of the fun here.

Does John Paul Jones use Flatwounds?

Keep in mind Noel Redding used a Jazz bass, Rotosound strings and Marshall Amps, no piano tone there either. The Beatles and Motown set the standard for "popular bass tone that got played on AM radio" at the time. It was one of the factors that went into mixing BITD.
