Was thinking it may have been a Stadard, which had been converted to 6 strings - But the neck seems wider at the nut, the stringthrough ferules look original, and the headstock doesn't seem to have been plugged and repainted.

My guess it's either a proto or a fairly well made fake with original Gibson parts, though the pickguard seems a little rough on the edges.

It is as much a G3 as it is an RD Artist/Standard. That would justify the bolt on aspect.
Maybe it is an employee build.

... and I, for one, love it! When you don't have someone standing over you, ready to rack your knuckles every time the conversation wanders off-center, and you're part of a mirepoix of interesting, fun, intelligent people from all walks of life and all around the globe... what an incredible opportunity! How many of us in the 40+ age group, would've laughed in faces of anybody that told you that you'd be able to do that from the comfort of your own home, or office, or even while commuting? Yet... here we are!

I enjoy the natural organic evolution of this open-ended conversation... wherever it may lead!:)

Do you have the Custom Shop '91 3 pickup Thunderbirds in your book? I seem to recall there were 3 of those made in white and cardinal red...

Went to the L&M near my college after class yesterday, they had TWO used Traynor YBA200's. I only looked at the one for a couple seconds, it was $450ish but pretty sure it had KT88's. The other one was more of a rental, but available for purchase I believe, don't know the price or tubes. Unfortunately I was on my way out when I spotted them and didn't try them out, their used bass amps were out on the floor away from the bass section, kinda dumb if you ask me.

This leads to a rant about music stores. Every bass I picked up there was nearly unplayable, good amount of neck relief, and at least a 1/4 inch string action! You'd think they would at least setup the higher end/more common basses. I picked up a USA 7ender P bass, and if I were in the market for one, I would have walked away. The P was actually tort-ure to play, you'd think they'd try to push the $2000 instruments by having them play amazingly. They had an Epi bolt-on and a Pro-IV in natural that weren't terrible but not great either. They also had an EBMM StingRay that looked fairly new from the wall, seemed like the plastic was still on the pg... but the strings were COMPLETELY RUSTED! If it were a $200 bass that is one thing, not exactly acceptable but still a different story, but it was an actual USA EBMM! Sad thing is it's a nice store with nice people, but it seems like they don't know how to sell instruments.

HAH!!! You're startin' to sound like me! Back when I was doin' all that trading around lookin' for a big necked bass, I siezed every opportunity to bitch about the horrific condition of the basses on the wall at my local GC... and it looks like it paid off! Even the Epi TB IV (which had the worst ski jump in the store), is now considerably happier, healthier, and more playable than I've seen since this li'l adventure began. They still haven't done anything for the used gear, but the new stuff is shiny & playable right off the wall!

I already did. But Uwe doesn't want it. He's pretty sure it is not a real Gibson.

No, when I photographed his collection I decided against it, because I was afraid the book would be overcrowded with Thunderbirds. There was nothing special about that Thunderbird except for the added third pickup.
In hindsight I regret that decision. I could have placed it as an insert in a corner somewhere.

That's one of the reasons I started playing drums. There's still a shortage of good drummers, though. It's fun even playing drums badly.

There are also a couple of Traynor bass heads kicking around including a YBA 300. But, there is no need to rush as they always seem to have at least one YBA 200 and one YBA 300 in stock. I'm more in the market for one of these:
