Went to the L&M near my college after class yesterday, they had TWO used Traynor YBA200's. I only looked at the one for a couple seconds, it was $450ish but pretty sure it had KT88's. The other one was more of a rental, but available for purchase I believe, don't know the price or tubes. Unfortunately I was on my way out when I spotted them and didn't try them out, their used bass amps were out on the floor away from the bass section, kinda dumb if you ask me.

This leads to a rant about music stores. Every bass I picked up there was nearly unplayable, good amount of neck relief, and at least a 1/4 inch string action! You'd think they would at least setup the higher end/more common basses. I picked up a USA 7ender P bass, and if I were in the market for one, I would have walked away. The P was actually tort-ure to play, you'd think they'd try to push the $2000 instruments by having them play amazingly. They had an Epi bolt-on and a Pro-IV in natural that weren't terrible but not great either. They also had an EBMM StingRay that looked fairly new from the wall, seemed like the plastic was still on the pg... but the strings were COMPLETELY RUSTED! If it were a $200 bass that is one thing, not exactly acceptable but still a different story, but it was an actual USA EBMM! Sad thing is it's a nice store with nice people, but it seems like they don't know how to sell instruments.

So far, the only shop here in NYC, that has great people, and their instruments are set up, and properly is Rudy's.
There may be others, i'm just not aware of them.

Actually, this is the ultra rare 3 string version. The fourth tuning knob is just a dummy to make the headstock look balanced. I believe they are tuned BAD, at least they sound that way. ;)

LOL - not sure how it's tuned but looks like the top and bottom strings are at or beyond the ragged edge of the pickup sensing area. If it came this way from the factory I'd be pissed. :cool:
Then again, maybe that low B is just a full length thumb rest and the high string a full length tug bar, in which case it's an ingenious design. ;)

PS - forgot to mention how thoughtful it was for the owner to string up the silks into the first position. Makes for a nice soft place to play if you haven't built up calluses yet.

I'd be very surprised if it's tuned BEADGC, it was probably made like the 7ender VI, tuned E-E, like a guitar but an octave lower.

It kinda looks like a hack job, rather than a custom job... Everything about it looks like something someone found in the parts drawer and threw on it...

6-string bridge with plastic saddles - Did they even use those back when the RD's were in production?
And that pickguards looks pretty homemade too - Definitely not something to find on a production bass, but maybe on a prototype...

Ugh. I'm guilty of this. :banghead:

Granted, that was 25 years ago and I didn't know any better, I figured the silk wrapping was there for a reason. Now that I think about it this is probably why I thought GHS Bass Boomers sounded like crap and never bought them again. Wasn't a big deal though, I think I was only trying to play KISS songs anyway. :P
