Just play some rounds until they're dead. And there you go, flats sound.
That's pretty much what's on it. Previous owner said he hasn't changed the strings since he stopped playing live in the late 70's.

Love the Rat Rod look you're going for there... But why going for a face/front mounted jack?
Brass pickup cover and ring would look great on that bass (if they were made)...

I just prefer a front-mounted jack. Plugging in without having to look down/around at the side mounted jack is more fun. And I did make a control plate, but was the wrong shape. second round coming up... need to look at some pickup covers, maybe get dimensions, then I'll cut one out and bend it up. When I used to teach bass in a local msic store my six year-old was with me in there one day. She saw it and said, "Dad, you have to get this one!". She remained adamant...
It's a motorcycle tire, adapted to a strap by the Levy company. Had it for 11 years now, very comfy.
