Gary Thain played a 4-string. So did Jaco. So did probably all my favorite bassists. Good enough for me. It’s been a rare time I’ve wanted to go below low E. My bass teacher plays a 6-string fretless. Right tool for your job I guess.

In two of my bands, I go below E all the time. But I don't need the top notes of the G on a standard tuned bass in those bands, either, so it's fine to just use a longer tuning. For me.
What's that? 21 or 22 hertz? You could almost count the cycles...

The best argument I've heard for a 5 string bass, was from before I started hangin' here with yooz guys in da club. His argument was that, everyone here at TB believes that bass is good, and that there should be more bass. By his logic... that is exactly what the "B" string is... more bass!
I would love to see a 6 string T-bird... but not some 10,000 dollar custom shop coffee table... a real "spirit-of-the-original" 6 string interpretation of the Thunderbird... I'm thinkin' chrome over piano black with ebony sounds pretty swankyHow about 6? I was checking out an Ibanez 6 string bass hanging on the wall of my kids’ music school today. I wanted to take it down and plug it in and give it a try. I’d have one just to have one but I’m certain I’d never need one.

4 strings is more than adequate for helping me pull my head outa my arse. Once it's out... who knows! Most of the stuff I listen to and love, was done on 4 strings. I don't necessarily see a 5 or 6 string bass in my future (not including Larry's 5 string Epi, which wouldn't be a 5 string for long
)... but I think it's silly to voluntarily climb into a pigeon hole for some artificial boundary that you've placed on yourself. I think you should just kinda listen to your inner musician. If he/she thinks it would be cool to mess around with more than 4 strings at some point... I think you should be open to it. Maybe it goes nowhere... maybe it changes your life! Of course it's just my big fat opinion... but I think people generally place far too much emphasis on defining themselves. That's a great way to miss out on a lot.What is that? The only info I could find is that it is a Warmoth body, I cant make out the headstock either.
I was going to say that it looks like ash graining with a walnut stain. As it’s warmoth, that’s probably accurate, maybe.
