Have you been combing through the local ads and epay?. Im always looking for something from my bucket list of past gasses. Ive always kept my eyes open for a local BC Rich Mockingbird bass but havent seen one and I look everyday. It may not be a bad thing since every youtube video Ive ever seen of one sounded like . But!, if one came up I would move on it for the right price. Loooove that body styledrool

Where is all of the chrome?, must be a pre chrome picture. The chrome would have got more votes based on looks alone. Hell if I didnt know about a Bird I would have voted for the Bird just "bassed" on the chrome.

Nope but sure looks/feels like it to me. Basswood is pretty soft, moreso than alder I feel.

Basswood is very very soft, much softer than alder, ash, mahogany and even pine. Sand lightly.

WHY?

I've never cared much for the headless bass with minimalist body design, but of the bunch that fall into that category the Ibanez Axstar looks best to me...

I wouldn't mind finding a Roadstar II either. I liked those a lot.

I think that was exactly what was going on. The few people that I know of that own the 20/20's really like them. Never tried one myself. Not sure how I would get along with such a small body. I like to hide behind my basses.

That it does. Never heard the Axstar in person (or Paul Kean for that matter) but an upper midrange focused bass as noted in the Kean article is 180 out from the sound I'm after, so I guess I'll just have to pass on getting one of these.

Unrelated - did you ever get the bugs worked out of your Tech pedal? I stopped using mine quite some time ago, it had lots of tone options but only a couple that worked for me. Not to mention the excessive interaction between a couple of the knobs - nudge one a hair one way and you're ok but barely touch another and you're suddenly miles from where you want to be. Not a gig friendly pedal IMHO.

You know, that is the irk I've heard people talk about when it comes to the VT. I demo'd one years back and it just didn't work for me. For those very reasons you mentioned.

I have heard it from BC Rich themselves that Mockingbird basses have serious balance issues, back when I asked about one in the late '80's. Basically said they wouldn't build one for me. Then again, I am not a famous bassist, and my endorsement would have been worth less than used TP to them.

Having one custom built would have been nice. Im sure if one ever falls into my possession Im going to be replacing electronics and putting in Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders at the bridge and neck position.

Im watching the votes as they keep climbing in favor of the Fender brand. As often as Ive read the saying that "Fender needs to change things up", "That body style is tired", "Those bodies are too heavy". Look at the current vote count. Im a FSO kind of guy and I wouldnt have imagined this, hell Rickenbacker is way lower in the running than I predicted. The Thunderbird numbers dont surprise me somehow. I didnt know anything about a Bird until I just decided I need one, bought it after having plugged it in on low volume for about 5 minutes and I was sold.
Which one of my basses would you play?

I had this discussion with the dudes at Music Central a couple times. It's because players are stuck on wanting the state of the art of 1959. As much as they rail against things always being the same, what do they buy most often? Black and burst strats, Lester Paulsons, P's and J's.

In that order, I never noticed the club till @TBird1958 caught my eye. There she was in her avatar with a Bird, I dared to enter. And along with @JIO, @hillerup, @Gaolee, @GBassNorth and @kat888. They really all set me straight. And on the narrow path....
Pretty green when I bashed my way in. And everyone was patient and guided me through to the way of the Bird.
