Thunderbird Club

Well, last night was my first rehearsal using the Hipshot on my classic pro, and I have to say I was pretty much amazed at the difference.
Sustain has increased exponentially and so has the sensitivity of the strings. Where I was previously having to hammer songs out to get the attack I wanted, I can now go much gentler and get the same effect but with far greater accuracy and articulation. All in all, £89 very well spent :)

I had a similar revelation when I put a Babicz bridge on my 2014 t-bird. I found it really improved the play-a-bility overall as well as the tone. I have no ill-will towards the 3 point bridge. I just like the replacement better.

So... Did the amp and cab survive? ;)

They actually did much to my amazement, which surprised me since I think the majority of damage we suffered was water from the firehoses. It did make some fuzzy noises and I didn't really trust the electronics going forward, so with the $300 out of pocket resulting in the Marshall bass stack, I never looked back. :)

Interesting..... I put a Supertone on my Epi Classic Pro T'Bird and also on an Epi Allen Woody. Didn't really notice much difference between the original 3 pointer and the Supertone on the 'Bird, either in terms of play-ability, attack, sustain, etc. etc. (just glad that the bridge inserts don't fall out when changing strings and it's a darn site easier to adjust), but on the Woody..... Huge difference. Massive sustain boost! And the tone..... Sure it was "warm" before..... It seems "fuller". Maybe "bloom" is the word I'm looking for. Can't quite put my finger on it.....

Yeah all of these things could probably described as a "placebo effect" but in the end, if that is what makes you want to play the bass more, than its worth it.

Well, it's SUPER!

Well, I wasn't playing live but my bass amp was on fire once... problem being so was the entire club! New Year's Eve '85, we had set up the night before, I arrived at the club early NYE to see it fully engulfed in flames, Fire Dept. fighting the fire and my bandmates standing across the street with the look of shock on their faces. Here's a photo of us standing on what was the stage the next day and another of me with my bass amp/cab after we had recovered what we could and hauled it back to our practice room. Not one of our better gigs...View attachment 2819809 View attachment 2819810

"Warriors...Come out to play-yayyyy!" Helluva way to start 1986!

So little info available today on the L4, would love to get my hands on one or at the very least a service manual.

Very good chance I'll get rid of the bridge on it for a 3 point. I simply do not like the look of a bird without a 3 point. I personally don't buy the "it's better" thing. I have 4 birds with 3 points, have zero issue with them and they look better to me.

I have been considering a horrible karma tempting sin. Namely replacing the 3 point on my 2001 with a Babicz. I assume the Babicz on the 2015 is like what will be on your 2018. If they are compatible, I would be open to a trade with some cash going your way because the Babicz is worth more (I believe).

It really was a decent amp, I had no problems with it, wasn't looking for something else, portable enough for gigging. Of course, a Marshall bass stack for $300 was a nice upgrade.

I'll keep it in mind.

Might go cheap(er) because of the holiday. People are less focused on ebay due family commitments, traveling etc.

Traynor YBA-200 200W Bassmaster All Tube Bass Guitar Amplifier Amp Head | eBay

One for sale locally for $600 CAD ($460 US)
If I didn't just pay for school I'd pick it up, see how it compares to my Mesa

That's the same model as I have (the YBA200/2 comes with KT88s). The first version had a potentially troublesome auto-bias function -- a previous owner removed it from mine.

Time to hit Bank of Mum and Dad for a loan.
