Thunderbird Club

White Thunderbirds........still the SEX!

Congratulations on very beautiful bass! And yes, it's hard to believe they're only $499.00, truly "Everyman's Thunderbird". Play it in good health for many years!

Lmao...
Just got back from my lessons and the instructor went all bananas about my classic again. This time to a student. She had some kind of P she claimed was custom, and he kindly schooled her about the awesomness of the classic and the neck thru mahogany body and the flats.
Then he jammed out sunshine of our love and pointed out that it sounded exactly like cream.
Guys my new hero lol

It's hardly been Winter here, we had about an inch of snow once in November, the roads were bare a couple hours later.........Since then there's been frost on the lawn twice. Actually it's a record dry warm season, there's not much snow in the Cascades, not much skiing and we'll likely have water restrictions this Summer.

I took pictures cause i'd thought i'd ask you guys your opinion, but upon looking at the pictures of my bird still in black, i think i'll go ahead and do some red binding :p

Short story to come after it's complete :D what d'you think so far?

WHAT CHU TALKIN BOUT WILLIS?!?! Growing up in Alaska, earthquake zone, I never met anyone that "got used to them".

Later on when I lived in Louisianna and I survived Hurricane Andrew I gain a lot of respect for the wind too.

ok, in all fairness, maybe that was a poor choice of words. i'd say we just come to expect it.

update:new t bird came in. needs a setup, but sounds great! pictures to follow soon.....

So the day has arrived!!! The white classic pro has landed!!! How is this bass only $499?? How? Dropped the bridge, tuned it up and off we went. The fit and finish are really good, some little paint flaws here and there but really really small. You'd have to be holding it in the light on an angle to see them. Like I did.... :) As required here is a picture.View attachment 563097

Congrats on your new Thunderbird, and welcome to the sub-club of sexy white T-birds! :)

Very nice, Andii...

Hard to tell from the grainy picture, but it seems you've done a pretty good job at refinishing it.

I definitely think you should go ahead with the faux red binding, but would like to offer a suggestion: Why not paint the headstock satin black with red carve/binding as well?

I think that might even look better than the red headstock...

so just fyi for some who may not know, the jack in the epi classic pro's is not a "standard" barrel jack. it is actually a bit longer. my guy rigged the broken jack by soldering the two "rings" together so it wouldn't move around inside itself and short out on the "tip" connector, if that makes any sense at all. problem solved!

I agree; red binding will tie the headstock and body together.

Looks good Andii! I agree that it needs red binding.

It's looking real good Andii!

Thanks guys, it did need it :D Although the black was amazing all around, having that red edge makes it more visible if ever i'm in a dim lit room. And yes i've done well with the refin. Although the scar of the broken wing is still visible in certain angles of light, from 5 feet away in the dark, it won't be, so i'm pretty pleased about it.

What is in store for the headstock?

In regards of the headstock: i had thought years ago, before painting the inside portion of the headstock, of doing red binding with black interior. But since the tuners were black, my then girlfriend had suggested that i should paint the inside red and leave black exterior so they could stand out against the headstock. Although Hillerup's suggestion is good, i would've probably done it if i had chrome tuners and if the body was red or something :)

It's all coming together nicely, i'll apply a second coat of red today, and then monday is the whole start of the finish process.
