Thunderbird Club

Out running errands. Gonna check out that Studio ‘Bird while I’m out :)

I would rock a Studio model, skinny headstock and all. Will it do anything any of my Gibson Birds won't? Probably pretty similar overall but I would not mind owning one. And there is that whole N+1 thing ;)

I think I saw your post, Larry! Just wanted to see for myself and I got to check out a sweet old Sunn amp while I was there. The studio I tried wasn’t heavy at all. A tiny bit heavier than mine, but not bad at all. Sounded great. A bit mellower sounding than mine, but not in a bad way. Headstock isn’t as cool looking to me. Or maybe it’s just...different :) Not having the raised center is odd looking too. I guess I think my bass looks ‘cooler’ but I liked the Studio for what it is.
I really want to go back and try that Sunn Colosseum 300 again!

That Sunn Colosseum is a pretty good head. Have played through those and always was able to get a great tone from it.

That face!
Yeah he is special.;)

For any of you that have refinished a Thunderbird, have any advice on painting the neck and headstock? I want to preserve the side-dots, so do I just tape off the fretboard edge until I apply the clear coat? And for the black part of the headstock, tape that off while I paint the main color, then tape over the color when I apply the black, and then do the clear coat? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Yes on the side dots. Unless you really need to refin the black part of the headstock do it the same way.

If you really need to refin the black, don't bother masking it. Just paint it all with your main color. Then mask the main color and paint the black. You'll get a better paint line that way.

This may seem trivial, but I've seen people in the car world not follow this and really screw things up... It's hell of a lot easier to cover other colours with black, than it is to cover black with other colours. So make sure black is sprayed last!

Nope, you missed it. This is the post that I was talking about.

Well hell! You're talking about Mark right there! I've just spent better than an hour watching/listening to The Legendary Shack Shakers on YouTube. Great energy and my office/cubicle hands would be hurting like crazy to do what Mark's doing.

I wonder how that works... do the size of them paws allow you to do that or are the size of them paws because you've been doing that a long time?

Very entertaining and that's so cool that you and your DB have traveled the world doing what you do!

I don’t think you saw that post.

Man, when you’re right, you’re right!!! Totally missed that. What an incredibly kind thing to say, brother!
My hands were often trashed until I got used to it, then they still get trashed sometimes :)
You gotta pull them strings pretty hard sometimes
