Does your white P Bass have a J Bass neck? Say what you will about the J Bass pups but Fender offers the nice neck bling (blocks and binding) on the J that you seldom see on a P Bass.

My black ‘76 P bass has an ‘A’ neck, which is pretty much a typical J style neck. The white P bass is made by a company in New Jersey called Gamma

It’s 1 5/8” at the nut and fairly flat on the back. I’m not super fussy about that sort of stuff, but as a rule, 1 5/8” is pretty much perfect to me. My Drake is the same. Strictly speaking, the Gamma is a moderately priced bass. Nothing really boutique about it. Headstock is a bit wonky looking, if you asked me. May reshape it at some point, but it doesn’t gross me out either. Plays and feels great. Mahogany neck, love the block markers, records nicely.

I have never tried anything but the discontinued Fender Super55s, which are hotter than most stock J-bass pups. I would be interested to try out/hear some of the aftermarket versions, which look like they offer more variation in design (e.g. Delano or Nordstrand). But buying them as a pair is a much more expensive tone "experiment" than trying out most P-bass pups. Although, the aftermarket T bird pups some of you reference are probably in that same ballpark.

My Boxer is nearly a cat too, lays on the back of couches, tries climbing up people. Also thinks she's the same size as your dog, always sitting behind me on an office chair, standard lapdog stuff.

Got some replacement pickguards from Pickguardian - They look great and fit perfect....

Found these decals on Ebay to dress up the pickguards a little...

Here it is with the white pickguard installed...

And with the black pickguard installed....

Whelp still no word from Sam Ash on when they expect them. Sent in an email saying the most recent ETA they gave me was 12/15 and asked if there was any update. Response was "not in yet sorry!" They offered a pretty good discount to keep the order when I asked to cancel my preorder a while back (sweet water was already shipping them out).

I'd like to keep my order with them in case I receive a lemon as there is a sam ash close enough to me that I could drive to a store to return it. But, I'm wary that at this point it wont be until well into 2018 when they start stocking them since the ETA keeps getting pushed back.

Sweetwater has a decent return policy, and they have them in stock, and you can choose from several different weights.

While I agree with overcrowding and the diversity of the music scene, the noise ordinances have affected the midtown area the hardest. We still have an awful lot of great music venues. Lower Broadway is a mixed bag, though it mostly sucks

They don't want My Kind down there on Broadway.

Lollar T Bird sets are around $400 and ThunderBuckers are a tiny bit cheaper. They’re an investment for sure!

I have Nordstrand’s in two of my basses and am pretty knocked out by the quality.

I think I saw your post, Larry! Just wanted to see for myself and I got to check out a sweet old Sunn amp while I was there. The studio I tried wasn’t heavy at all. A tiny bit heavier than mine, but not bad at all. Sounded great. A bit mellower sounding than mine, but not in a bad way. Headstock isn’t as cool looking to me. Or maybe it’s just...different Not having the raised center is odd looking too. I guess I think my bass looks ‘cooler’ but I liked the Studio for what it is.
I really want to go back and try that Sunn Colosseum 300 again!

Black Beauties are on the fretless as of last night. I haven't had time to plug it in and see what that sounds like yet. It sounds pretty good unamplified.

For any of you that have refinished a Thunderbird, have any advice on painting the neck and headstock? I want to preserve the side-dots, so do I just tape off the fretboard edge until I apply the clear coat? And for the black part of the headstock, tape that off while I paint the main color, then tape over the color when I apply the black, and then do the clear coat? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
