Thunderbird Club

Just in case there's any question... this is not a political thing for me. I'm not a member of any clubs, or part of any "movement". I own neither soap box nor pulpet. I speak solely from my personal experiences, observations, and feelings on the matter. I have to assume that, what's actually involved with the process of declawing a pet, is not necessarily common knowledge... because it's hard to imagine a right-minded, stable, rational person that would think it's acceptable to do that to another living creature at ALL, but especially for nothing more than convenience! Just as sure as they have soft fur and cute little noses... cats have claws, and will instinctively use them. If you can't handle that... then you don't want a cat. It's just that simple.
I get that now that Ive been schooled on the subject, I didnt think my lack of knowledge would have called for the amputation of childrens fingers and my country to be viewed as uncivilized though. Didnt see that coming. You on the other hand have approached the subject and handled it like a pro. I respect your input. And you are a member of a club, Thunderbird Club.

j/k, pal. :)

So I have a line on a nice looking ebony Thunderbird IV for what seems like a good price ($1000 Canadian is pretty good, right? That's about US$1300).
Model # is BAT4EBBC. It's got those black encased ceramic humbuckers, so I figured I might want to swap them out for something a bit more classic -- alnico? with chrome or nickel covers. Maybe replace the bridge with chrome too. What's good/available? I know Seymour Duncan custom shop does em. Anyone else?

Anyone have a source for repro ashtrays? I like having a cover over the pickup -- have them on my PBass and on the Jazz, and had one on my Rick.

It looks like this

I'd like to make it more like this:

Finding the right pickups can be tricky. Online example clips are tough to decipher. Way more bad sounding clips than good sounding ones. After pouring through more clips than I care to admit, I decided Thunderbucker Ranch and Lollar would be my safest bets. I also assumed I’d swap out the pickups and hardware on my 2014 Gibson until I actually got the thing. Sure, I prefer the Chromed out look to black, but my bass plays and sounds so good, I’m afraid to touch anything on it!

kinda my point broseph;)

Declawing is horribly cruel! I can't think of a better way to demonstrate that, than by performing a similar procedure on the person suggesting it. Damndest thing though... folks always seem opposed to the idea! Weird, right?

@ProgressiveDoom I'm just busting' yer chops man:D

This is something I feel strongly about... but I ain't here to change nobody. I want you to be who you are, and do what you do. I think yer friggin' awesome:thumbsup: ... but I wouldn't mind a bit, if you kicked my perspective around a little;)

All good bro. Was just the selective reading that kicked in....................

I'm not sure what part you were saying was awesome... maybe all of it but my goodness, that Bryan Adams video was so hot for the day.

I was 14 at the time of it's release and watching a lot of MTV... that video, and many like it, had a lot to do with it. :woot:

Mainly the vid Larry, but i got a great laugh out of the rest of it. I'm a good boy, i don't mess with the pipe.

Funny, when I had my Drake made, 5-6 years ago, I was attempting to get a more Gibson sound back in my life. Those TV Jones Thunder’Blades do get in the ballpark for sure

The pickups aren’t quite as hot as the ones in my ‘Bird, but if I cranked em down a bit, they might get closer. Then again, I’m glad they don’t sound the same. Jonesing hard for more of an early 60’s ‘Bird sound (and look, for that matter), but that’s gonna have to wait until after the holidays.
